Yes. Wendy and Hermit both survive their fight with the Xenomorph in “Metamorphosis,” though Hermit is impaled and Wendy is left badly hurt. Their immediate victory does not bring relief: the episode ends with a disturbing experiment involving Hermit’s preserved lung and Wendy collapsing after her hearing becomes overwhelming.
Episode 3 identity
“Metamorphosis” is season 1, episode 3 of Alien: Earth, released August 19, 2025. Dana Gonzales directed the episode, with Noah Hawley credited as creator and screenwriter, according to Rotten Tomatoes’ episode listing. FX’s official podcast page uses the same title and synopsis and identifies it as episode three.
How Wendy and Hermit fight the Xenomorph
Wendy follows the Xenomorph’s clicks to a delivery area lined with parked truckbeds. Inside a trailer, she finds Hermit cocooned in resin. The creature appears, and the siblings try to protect each other as the fight spills out of the trailer.
Wendy wounds the Xenomorph with a makeshift sword, but its acidic blood adds another danger. The creature drags her out of the trailer. Hermit comes to her aid and is impaled through the chest by the alien’s tail. When it turns on him, Wendy uses a hook against its inner jaw and pulls it toward a closing garage door. The siblings kill the creature. Afterward, Hermit finds Wendy alive, but she is collapsing and seriously injured.

The battle is also a reckoning over how Hermit sees Wendy. She has a new body and abilities, but she is still his sister. On FX’s official podcast, co-executive producer Migizi Pensoneau discusses actor Alex Lawther’s choices around whether Hermit calls her Wendy or Marcy, depending on whether he is responding to the hybrid or to his sister. That tension gives their effort to save each other emotional weight beyond the spectacle of the fight.
What “Metamorphosis” reveals beyond the fight
The episode’s title fits more than the physical changes at its center. The Lost Boys, Prodigy and the Maginot storylines add pressure around identity and control. Nibs questions the assigned Peter Pan names and her place among the group, while Boy Kavalier pushes Kirsh to bring back the hybrids and specimens.

Kirsh’s work after the battle supplies the episode’s most unnerving transformation. He dissects a facehugger, removes a tadpole-like organism and places it in a glass of water. It searches for a host. The organism is then put into Hermit’s preserved lung.
At the same time, Wendy’s hearing becomes overwhelming and she collapses. The episode leaves both developments unresolved: it shows the organism entering Hermit’s lung and Wendy going down, but does not reveal what happens next.

How the episode frames the alien
On the official Alien: Earth podcast, host Adam Rogers talks with executive producer Migizi Pensoneau about the Xenomorph fight, the creature’s vulnerability and whether the alien should be understood as death or as an animal with agency. Pensoneau’s distinction is: “I think that it’s less that they are death and more that they are survival.” That perspective matches the creature’s role in this episode: it is a lethal opponent, but also an organism acting to survive.
