How does Kim’s story unfold?
In “A Ghost of a Second Chance,” Eddie returns to Kim’s shop and talks with her. He presents himself as a single dad and leaves with keychains marked “E” and “C,” while leaving behind one marked “M.” Later, he drops Christopher at Buck’s apartment, saying he is going on a date with his girlfriend, Marisol. Instead, Kim is waiting for Eddie at the restaurant, and the two go to dinner.
Why is Devin Kelley also shown as Shannon?
Kelley has two distinct roles in the episode: she reprises Shannon in flashback material and plays Kim in the present-day storyline. The flashbacks revisit Shannon; Kim’s resemblance to her creates an emotional complication for Eddie, rather than a resurrection or a hidden identity reveal.

Ryan Guzman, who plays Eddie, described the character’s unresolved past as part of the challenge of this moment: “There’s so many traumatic moments that Eddie still has yet to answer for himself in his own past. So how that plays into this present moment is a balancing act. And what I’d like to see is him handle it with ease, but that doesn’t offer great TV. So yeah, he’s going to be a mess just as much as he was — as we all are, really.”
