When and where the anniversary screenings took place
Focus Features announced a limited US engagement beginning August 29, 2024, at 7 p.m., exclusively at Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres. The announcement directed moviegoers to check local listings for participating locations and showtimes. Focus Features’ July 25, 2024 announcement described the event as a celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary.

Universal Pictures International announced the film’s return to cinemas in the UK and Ireland for September 27, 2024, with Dolby Cinema and Dolby Atmos presentation. The announcements establish those dates as past events; they do not confirm screenings or ticket availability in 2026.
What was different about the theatrical presentation
The anniversary version was described as fully remastered in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Dolby Vision is the picture format, while Dolby Atmos is the immersive sound format; the US event was presented at Dolby Cinema, and the UK and Ireland announcement also specified Dolby Cinema and Dolby Atmos.

Director Edgar Wright framed the remaster as an opportunity to see the movie theatrically again: “Now, as we celebrate its bloody 20th anniversary with a brand-new Dolby Atmos and Vision remastered version, I’m beyond excited for everyone to experience it once again on the big screen—the way it was always meant to be seen: large, loud, and with quite a lot of red on it.”
Why the film received an anniversary return
Released in 2004, Shaun of the Dead is a horror-comedy directed by Edgar Wright and co-written by Wright and Simon Pegg. Pegg and Nick Frost star. The anniversary campaign’s “20 bloody years” framing nods to the film’s mix of zombie gore and comedy, rather than signaling a new installment.

How the 4K home release compared
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced a 4K Ultra HD remaster for digital and disc on December 3, 2024, including a limited-edition SteelBook. The theatrical and home versions were both tied to the anniversary remaster, but the home release was a separate way to revisit the film, with disc packaging and bonus material that a cinema screening did not offer.

The Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announcement lists the runtime as 1:39:26 for both the 4K UHD SteelBook and standard 4K UHD editions. It also lists an R rating for zombie violence/gore and language.
