How the family announced her death
Amanda Halterman, Katie’s cousin and Amy and Tammy’s sister, announced the death on Instagram on August 26, according to The Independent and E! News. The Independent reproduced Halterman’s tribute: “It is with a completely crushed heart and spirit that I have to post this. My little cousin went to sit at the feet of Jesus yesterday.”
Halterman also remembered Katie as “a force to be reckoned with and showed love that was accepting and given freely” and “the life of the party and my best friend.” These words were reported as excerpts from her Instagram post.

Katie’s connection to 1000-Lb. Sisters
Katie was Amy and Tammy Slaton’s cousin and appeared on multiple episodes of the TLC series.
