Por que o nome brasileiro é diferente
Uma explicação publicada pela POPLine relaciona a escolha de Wandinha à tradição brasileira de localização da Família Addams e à ideia de que uma referência cultural presente em “Wednesday” poderia não fazer sentido para o público brasileiro. Essa é uma explicação de uma reportagem, não um motivo confirmado pela Netflix.
O anúncio oficial da Netflix de 17 de fevereiro de 2021 ajuda a separar o nome da personagem do título da produção: anunciou Wednesday como nome da série e chamou a protagonista de Wandinha. O texto descreveu o projeto como uma comédia de amadurecimento com mistério sobrenatural. Assim, a personagem pode manter o nome localizado em português enquanto a série conserva o título original em outros catálogos.

O que significa Wednesday
A POPLine associa “Wednesday” à cantiga inglesa “Monday’s Child”, cuja estrofe sobre quarta-feira descreve uma criança “cheia de angústias”. A Univision também atribui a sugestão da cantiga à atriz e poeta Joan Blake. Como essas fontes não estabelecem a atribuição por meio de uma fonte histórica primária, é mais preciso tratá-la como contexto relatado, não como confirmação da Netflix ou de Charles Addams.
