Quando surgiu o meme “Come to Brazil”?
A origem mais citada remonta a 2008. Segundo o Museu de Memes, a usuária do Twitter @cecilab teria convidado o empresário francês Loïc Le Meur a visitar o Brasil. O museu atribui esse relato ao Know Your Meme; a publicação original não está autenticada pelas fontes consultadas, então é mais preciso tratar 2008 como a origem comumente apontada, não como uma primeira ocorrência comprovada.
A frase se espalhou mais amplamente por volta de 2009, quando Justin Bieber entrou no Twitter e fãs brasileiros passaram a enviar repetidamente pedidos para que ele viesse ao país. O Museu de Memes e um ensaio acadêmico publicado na revista Estudos em Jornalismo e Mídia situam a popularização nesse período.
O que a frase queria dizer?
“Come to Brazil” e “Please Come to Brazil” são pedidos para que artistas visitem o país, geralmente em turnê. A repetição transformou o convite em bordão: fãs publicavam a frase em comentários e respostas nas redes sociais, às vezes acrescentando o nome de uma celebridade.

O pedido podia ser sincero ou irônico. Para alguns fãs, expressava a vontade de ver artistas internacionais incluírem o Brasil — ou a América do Sul — em suas turnês. Mayka Castellano, professora de estudos culturais e de mídia da Universidade Federal Fluminense, explicou ao The Atlantic que a frase também refletia a frustração de fãs diante de uma relação percebida como unilateral, quando artistas pareciam ignorar esses públicos. A brincadeira sobre a insistência dos pedidos podia coexistir com esse desejo real; não há uma única intenção compartilhada por todos os fãs brasileiros.
Como o Offspring e Bruno Mars usaram o meme?
Offspring: a frase virou título de música
O Offspring deu o nome “Come to Brazil” a uma faixa associada ao álbum Supercharged. Na página oficial da banda, o grupo relaciona o título aos comentários recorrentes de fãs brasileiros: “Every time we announce any shows we get comments from our Brazilian fans saying ‘Come to Brazil!’ – which we love!”

Em 11 de setembro de 2023, depois de duas apresentações no festival The Town, em São Paulo, Bruno Mars agradeceu ao público e brincou com o pedido que por anos aparecia nas redes. O Gshow reproduziu a legenda: “Já se passaram seis longos anos, mas finalmente ‘vim ao Brasil’. Obrigado São Paulo, por duas noites incríveis. Eu te amo! Atenciosamente, seu Bruninho.”

A cobertura do Billboard aborda esse uso irônico. A frase pode, portanto, funcionar como pedido de turnê ou como piada sobre a própria insistência dos fãs.
