No. A PolitiFact review found no evidence in the reviewed Epstein files that Ellen DeGeneres participated in Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes or engaged in cannibalism. PolitiFact traced the viral claim to a story by The People’s Voice and an alleged whistleblower recording—not to supporting evidence in the files. Its reporting also says four analysts considered the audio likely AI-generated. That finding is not proof that every document in the archive was examined: some released records are not text-searchable.
Where did the claim come from?
PolitiFact reported on February 16, 2026, that the allegation originated with The People’s Voice. On February 11, the site published an article and video citing an unnamed “inside source” and presenting an alleged whistleblower recording. The clip made lurid claims, including that DeGeneres had a separate kitchen without cameras. The originating article did not cite Epstein-file correspondence from, to, or about DeGeneres that supported the accusation. PolitiFact’s fact-check describes how the story spread and what evidence it reviewed.
What did the audio analysis find?
PolitiFact reported that four analysts it interviewed assessed the recording as likely generated with artificial intelligence. A research team involving Northwestern University computer science professor V.S. Subrahmanian and postdoctoral researcher Marco Postiglione evaluated it using 83 deepfake-detection algorithms; 63 results leaned toward the audio being fake rather than real. Analysts also raised concerns about the recording’s delivery and background noise. These are findings reported by PolitiFact, not an independent analysis of the clip here.
What did PolitiFact find in the Epstein files?
PolitiFact said its review of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Epstein Library found no evidence that DeGeneres took part in Epstein’s criminal activities or engaged in cannibalism. The fact-check also said the originating story cited no file evidence of correspondence from, to, or about her that substantiated its claim.

There is an important limit to that finding: PolitiFact noted that text in some released documents is not searchable. Its conclusion should therefore be understood as a report on its review and the evidence it located, not as a guarantee that every page in the archive was individually examined. A name appearing in a large document collection, if it does, is not by itself evidence of wrongdoing.
Why did the story seem to be everywhere?
PolitiFact reported that one viral X post had reached 12.5 million views by late afternoon on February 16, 2026. That was the view count for one post at that time—not the total reach of the allegation, a count of unique viewers, or evidence that those viewers believed it. The source does not establish how many people accepted the claim.

How to assess a claim like this
When a sensational allegation is said to come from a document archive, look for the specific primary record and check whether it actually supports the claim. For a purported recording, ask who made it, whether its provenance is verifiable, and whether independent analysis supports its authenticity. In this case, PolitiFact reported that the claim’s originating story did not cite supporting Epstein-file correspondence and that analysts considered the audio likely AI-generated. The reviewed evidence does not substantiate the accusation.
