What the report says about the $1.7 million renovation
A January 15, 2025 report by The Boston Globe said a building permit filed with the Town of Westerly described planned work at Swift’s historic waterfront home in Watch Hill, known as Holiday House.
The reported scope included:
- Remodeling the kitchen
- Building new bathrooms
- Adding approximately 16 by 24 feet to the house
The expected cost was $1.7 million — Town of Westerly permit records, as reported by The Boston Globe, 2025. The underlying permit was not independently reviewed here, so this is an attributed estimate for planned work, not a confirmed final bill.
Does the permit establish a “dream wedding venue”?
No. The reported permit details describe renovation work, but do not identify a wedding-related purpose. The reviewed report does not establish a wedding plan or say Holiday House would operate as a wedding venue. Calling it a venue therefore goes beyond what the available reporting supports.

A permit describing upgrades is not evidence that the work was completed or that a property is being prepared for a particular use. The source describes the renovations as planned and the cost as expected; it does not verify completion or a final spend.
What is known about Holiday House
Property records cited by The Boston Globe described the home, before the planned work, as a 12,657-square-foot, 1904 mansion with seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The report says Swift bought the property in 2013 for approximately $17.75 million.

The house also has a cultural link to Swift’s 2020 song “The Last Great American Dynasty,” which recounts its history under former owner Rebekah Harkness, as the report notes.
