She said she had not realized her engagement could be read politically. Neither the comment nor her apology establishes how she voted.
How the controversy began
As Donald Trump was closing in on victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Russell Brand posted an Instagram photo wearing a red hat reading “Make Jesus First Again.” Scherzinger commented to ask where she could get one, according to TheWrap and E! News. Her comment was later deleted.
The slogan invoked religious language, but its phrasing and the hat’s resemblance to Trump-style campaign caps made the exchange politically legible to some readers during the election. That interpretation was a response to the context and imagery; the reported action itself was a question about the hat, not a public campaign statement by Scherzinger. The Independent and The Standard also reported on the controversy.
What Scherzinger said in her apology
On Friday, November 8, 2024, Scherzinger posted an apology to her Instagram Story. TheWrap quoted her as writing: “I deeply apologize for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts.”

She addressed the political interpretation directly: “I made the mistake of not realizing that my engagement could be easily interpreted as being politically related.” She added: “Many presumptions are being drawn, which do not reflect who I am, what I stand for, or who I voted for.”
Did Scherzinger say she voted for Trump?
No. In the reported apology, she said assumptions about who she voted for did not reflect her, but she did not identify her vote. The available reporting does not independently verify her vote or political affiliation. It would be inaccurate to treat either her question about the hat or her apology as proof of how she voted.

What is established—and what remains unclear
- Reported events: Scherzinger commented on Brand’s hat post, deleted the comment, and apologized in an Instagram Story on November 8, 2024.
- Interpretation: Some readers understood the interaction as political because of the hat’s resemblance to Trump-style campaign merchandise and the timing around the election.
- Not established: The reporting does not establish Scherzinger’s vote or political affiliation, or quantify the scale of the backlash.
The apology was reported by contemporaneous outlets quoting or summarizing an Instagram Story that is no longer available as a primary permalink. TheWrap and E! News reported quoted wording; The Independent and The Standard provided additional context.
