Ellen DeGeneres’s documented hair-color arc runs from her familiar platinum blonde to brunette in November 2024, then dark gray, and back to bleached blonde in December 2025. The dated reports capture selected appearances, not every look in between—and the latest one does not establish how she looks today.
Photos show a shift from platinum blonde to brunette
E! described DeGeneres’s familiar look as platinum blonde, a shade she had worn for years. In November 2024, she debuted a brunette transformation, styled as a short pixie cut, during an appearance with Portia de Rossi. E! reported on the debut in November 2024.
In May 2025, DeGeneres shared a video from the couple’s property in England that offered another view of the brunette look. E! noted that it had first appeared the previous November. E!’s May 7, 2025 report includes the video.

She was reported with dark gray hair before returning to blonde
Before the December 2025 sighting, E! described DeGeneres’s hair as dark gray. Its report called the later appearance a return to a bleached-blonde look and said she was seen in Montecito on December 27. E!’s December 30, 2025 report covers the appearance.
That is the most recent dated appearance in the reports cited here. It documents her look on that date, not her appearance in October 2026.

What DeGeneres has said about coloring short hair
In a comment from an April 2019 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, quoted by E!, DeGeneres said: “When you have short hair, you have to color it often, ’cause my hair grows really fast.” That remark provides earlier context about maintaining short hair; it does not explain the reason for any of her later color changes. E!’s article references the 2019 episode.
