Tamara Colins, played by Dylan Conrique, is a recurring character rather than one of the principal actors listed on ABC’s current cast page. That helps explain why she may appear less often than regulars, but it does not establish that she has been written out. The sources available do not confirm a Tamara-specific reason for her reduced presence or a formal departure.
Why Tamara’s appearances may be less frequent
Series regulars anchor the main cast, while recurring characters can appear when an episode’s story calls for them. The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley has described a general scheduling constraint for actors outside the regular cast: “Anybody else, if Matthew Glave gets a show, if Bridget Regan gets another show, they don’t become available.” He also discussed approaching those actors for particular episodes and using them where they could have the greatest story impact. TV Insider’s interview with Hawley provides context for how recurring roles can be scheduled; it does not identify this as the reason for Tamara’s appearances.
Why Tamara matters to Lucy
Tamara’s connection with Lucy Chen gave her an emotional role beyond simply appearing in an episode. The characters first became connected after Tamara, then a homeless teenager, stole Lucy’s car, and they grew close. Melissa O’Neil has said that putting Tamara at risk contributed to Lucy’s protective response. TV Guide’s interview with O’Neil speaks to that character dynamic.
What the cast listings do—and do not—show
ABC’s official season-six lead sheet lists the season’s principal stars, and Tamara is not among them. She is also absent from the principal cast presented on ABC’s current show page. The distinction is useful: ABC does not present her as a principal cast member, but a principal-cast list is not a record of every recurring character and does not, by itself, confirm that a character has exited.

ABC’s episode guide lists season-eight episodes as of October 7, 2026. The current principal-cast presentation still does not include Tamara. That establishes her absence from the listed regular lineup, not whether she will appear in a future episode.
A planned scene was cut, not aired
In coverage published April 29, 2025, TV Insider reported that a scene with Tamara dropping off officer Seth Ridley was planned as the opening of season seven’s “The Return” and later deleted. Actor Patrick Keleher discussed the removed scene. It shows that Tamara was included in material considered during the episode’s development, but it was cut before broadcast and is not an on-screen appearance. TV Insider’s account of the deleted scene describes what was removed.
