Steel Vengeance is the strongest first pick if you want a ride built around airtime and a changing sequence of elements. Cedar Point lists it at 205 feet tall, 74 mph, and 5,740 feet long, with almost 30 seconds of airtime, a 200-foot drop at 90 degrees, four inversions, and a ride duration of 2 minutes 30 seconds. 2. Millennium Force: best for a landmark-scale run
Choose Millennium Force for a fast, expansive ride and a major piece of coaster history. It opened in 2000, debuted at 93 mph, and was the first coaster to top 300 feet. Cedar Point says its introduction helped establish the giga-coaster category. The minimum height is 48 inches. 3. Top Thrill 2: best for launch acceleration and height
Top Thrill 2 is the choice for riders who want launch intensity and a dramatic climb. Cedar Point describes it as the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch strata coaster. The ride uses three launches; its final forward launch reaches 120 mph before riders rise on a 420-foot tower at a 90-degree angle. Cedar Point also lists three free-fall moments. 4. Maverick: best for force and fast direction changes
Maverick stands out for a forceful, less imposing-looking ride packed with movement. Its elements include a 95-degree first drop, two launches, and a Twisted Horseshoe Roll. In the tunnel, a launch accelerates riders to 70 mph in three seconds. Cedar Point also notes that Maverick won the 2007 Golden Ticket Award for Best New Ride. Raptor is the pick if you specifically want an inverted coaster experience. Cedar Point identifies it as an inverted roller coaster in its roller coaster listing.
