The seven picks ranged from Superman on HBO Max to Gen V season 2 on Prime Video, but they did not all premiere on Friday: some were already available, while Tulsa King season 3 was due Sunday. Availability outside the U.S. could differ, particularly for Swiped. The original TechRadar roundup was published September 19, 2025.

The dates and service information reflect the September 2025 coverage, not a guarantee of what is in any service’s catalog now. Even claims of worldwide availability do not ensure identical catalogs or release times in every country. The comparable GamesRadar weekend guide also highlights why “new this weekend” can mean a premiere, a streaming arrival, or a title simply available to watch.
1. Superman — HBO Max
James Gunn’s 2025 film puts a new version of the DC hero at the center of a broad-audience superhero adventure. It was presented as the first movie in the new DC Universe’s Chapter One and was the roundup’s main movie pick. The coverage establishes that it was on HBO Max by September 19, 2025, but does not give an exact streaming-arrival date.
Choose it for a standalone superhero film with the scale of a theatrical event. It is the most straightforward pick here if you want a movie rather than a new season to follow. The original service label was HBO Max; this entry describes the historical listing rather than asserting a current service name or catalog status. TechRadar’s September 19, 2025 guide

- The Help (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy)
2. Gen V season 2 — Prime Video
The second season of The Boys spinoff returns to Godolkin University and the stories of Marie, Jordan, Emma, Cate, and Sam. It premiered on Prime Video on September 17, 2025, two days before the roundup’s publication. The season was promoted as part of the wider The Boys universe, so familiarity with the spinoff—and ideally its parent series—makes it a better fit.
Pick this for violent superhero satire mixed with horror and college drama. It is a poor choice for family viewing: the coverage flags graphic violence and mature themes. The original roundup’s season description
Rank #2
3. Black Rabbit — Netflix
This eight-part thriller stars Jude Law and Jason Bateman as brothers pulled into danger after one becomes entangled with gangsters and loan sharks. Sope Dirisu, Cleopatra Coleman, and Troy Kotsur are also in the cast. The series became available on Netflix on September 18, 2025.
It suits viewers looking for a serialized crime story centered on family ties and escalating danger. At the time of the original article’s publication, it cited a 65% Rotten Tomatoes score; that was a dated snapshot, not a permanent rating. TechRadar’s publication-time coverage

4. Elio — Disney+
Pixar’s animated film follows a boy mistaken for Earth’s ambassador by an interplanetary organization. Yonas Kibreab voices Elio, alongside Zoe Saldaña, Shirley Henderson, and Jameela Jamil. The film arrived on Disney+ on September 17, 2025.
Its imaginative space premise and themes of loneliness, identity, and belonging make it the family-oriented option in this group. The roundup identifies it as a fit for families and animation viewers; it does not establish a current rating or a full assessment of its theatrical performance. TechRadar’s description of Elio

5. The Morning Show season 4 — Apple TV+
Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon return for the fourth season of Apple’s newsroom drama. The season’s subject matter includes deepfakes, artificial intelligence, misinformation, and war-related media narratives. It was available by the weekend of September 19, 2025; the coverage does not specify an exact day.
This is the pick for viewers drawn to workplace conflict, media politics, and continuing character arcs. It follows earlier seasons, and the original article points to unresolved season 3 stories involving Bradley and Alex, so starting here may leave you without important context. 6. Swiped — Hulu in the U.S.; Disney+ internationally
Lily James stars in this biographical comedy-drama about Whitney Wolfe Herd and the creation of Bumble. Dan Stevens and Myha’la are also identified in the coverage. It arrived September 19, 2025. The original article directed U.S. viewers to Hulu and described Disney+ availability internationally; streaming rights vary by market, so those labels should not be treated as universal.
Consider it if a business-origin story with a comedic-drama approach sounds more appealing than a franchise or crime series. At publication, the article cited a 38% Rotten Tomatoes score, a time-sensitive snapshot rather than a lasting verdict. The original article’s Swiped entry
7. Tulsa King season 3 — Paramount+
Sylvester Stallone returns as Dwight Manfredi in the third season of the crime drama. The story continues as Dwight’s criminal operation grows and faces opposition from the Dunmire family. The September 2025 guide said the season was scheduled to return on September 21, making this a Sunday arrival rather than a Friday premiere.
Choose it if you have followed the earlier seasons and want another chapter in Dwight’s Oklahoma-based mob story. The original coverage also reported a season 4 renewal; that is a claim from the 2025 article, not a current status check. TechRadar’s September 2025 account

How to choose—and whether to add a subscription
- For a superhero movie, choose Superman; for a darker, connected superhero story, choose Gen V if you know its franchise.
- For a crime-focused binge, try Black Rabbit; for a returning mob drama, continue with Tulsa King if you have watched earlier seasons.
- For family animation, choose Elio. For newsroom drama, The Morning Show is the more character- and issue-driven option, but it benefits from prior-season viewing.
- For a business-origin film, consider Swiped after checking the service available in your country.
The seven titles were spread across as many as seven services, but that is not a reason to subscribe to all of them. A sensible approach is to start with the title you most want and check whether you already have access through a subscription or bundle. The prices and promotional offers shown in the 2025 article are historical and should not be used as current quotes. The available information does not establish which services currently offer free trials, nor does it provide comparable rental prices for the films. Check the service’s official terms before signing up; catalog access, plan terms, and offers can change by country and date.
