Hoda Kotb was reportedly earning more than $20 million a year as a full-time co-anchor of NBC’s Today, according to a September 2024 report by Us Weekly citing Puck and an unnamed source described as having direct knowledge of her salary. The amount has not been publicly confirmed in the sources reviewed, and it refers to her former full-time role—not her later work as a special correspondent.
How much was Hoda Kotb reportedly paid on Today?
The reported figure was more than $20 million annually. Us Weekly reported it on September 27, 2024, citing Puck’s account and a source described as having direct knowledge of Kotb’s salary. The figure is an anonymously sourced media report, not a confirmed contract amount or an on-record disclosure from Kotb or NBC. Us Weekly’s September 2024 report
Did NBC propose a pay cut?
The same report said NBC proposed reducing Kotb’s pay during contract discussions. That claim, too, comes from reporting rather than an official NBC disclosure; the sources reviewed do not establish the size of any proposed reduction or the final terms of her contract.
Did salary cause Kotb to leave Today?
The available accounts do not establish that the reported pay proposal caused her departure. Kotb announced on September 26, 2024, that she planned to leave the full-time role early the next year. The Associated Press reported her public explanation: after turning 60, she wanted to spend more time with her daughters and mother. In a memo quoted by AP, Kotb wrote, “my daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie.” Associated Press coverage of Kotb’s departure

Separately, Us Weekly quoted an unnamed source close to Kotb saying that “salary played no role in Hoda’s decision.” That is an anonymous source’s account, not a direct statement from Kotb. Taken together, the public explanation and the salary reporting should be treated as separate information, not proof of a single cause.
Was the reported figure her pay after she left the anchor role?
No later compensation amount is disclosed in the sources reviewed. Kotb left her full-time Today role in January 2025. A January 22, 2025, Us Weekly report described a special correspondent arrangement with NBC and Today, with occasional appearances, but did not state her pay under that arrangement. The $20-million-plus estimate applies to reporting about her former full-time role and should not be presented as her current salary. Us Weekly on Kotb’s later correspondent role
