The project’s reported cost was approximately $2.3 billion, including core technology and soft costs—not a published, itemized total for construction alone.
What was built, and who built it?
Sphere is a semi-spherical venue at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) gives its dimensions as 516 feet in diameter and 366 feet above ground, and identifies MSG LV Construction, LLC as the general contractor. AISC says construction took five years.
Those facts establish the building’s scale, contractor and broad duration, but not a complete construction sequence. The available company and engineering accounts do not set out a reliable step-by-step chronology of foundation work, structural assembly, installation of venue systems or testing.
How much did the Sphere cost?
In May 2023, as the project neared completion, Sphere Entertainment reported an estimated construction cost of approximately $2.3 billion. The estimate included core technology and soft costs; the company said the increase primarily reflected the project’s overall complexity. Its previous estimate was $2.175 billion. These are company estimates, not an itemized breakdown of spending by construction, labor, technology or other categories.

AISC describes the facility as costing $2.2 billion. That rounded figure differs in presentation from Sphere Entertainment’s approximately $2.3 billion estimate; it does not establish a separate final cost.
What did topping out mean?
MSG Entertainment said that topping out the steel Exosphere marked completion of the project’s primary structural work. Topping out is an important structural milestone, but it does not mean the entire venue was finished: it does not establish that all construction, technology installation or systems work had been completed.

How does the exterior display work?
The Sphere’s exterior is a programmable LED display, not simply a conventional building facade. In 2022, MSG Entertainment described approximately 580,000 square feet of programmable LED paneling. Sphere Entertainment’s fiscal 2024 annual report later described approximately 1.2 million LED pucks, spaced eight inches apart, with 48 LED diodes in each puck.
The two descriptions give different kinds of information: one reports the paneling’s approximate area; the later account describes the display’s pucks, spacing and diodes. Together they explain a defining feature visible from outside, but they do not detail all the venue’s technology or how it was integrated during construction.

When did construction end?
AISC says the five-year construction effort culminated in an opening in September 2023. Sphere Entertainment’s later filing gives the specific opening date as September 29, 2023. The sources establish that endpoint, but not a detailed schedule of the work leading to it.
