Shandi Sullivan says she was blackout drunk and remembers only fragments of what happened during America’s Next Top Model Cycle 2’s Milan trip—not the straightforward act of infidelity the show’s 2004 episode presented to viewers. In a February 17, 2026 interview with Rolling Stone Canada, published around Netflix’s Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, Sullivan criticized production for continuing to film rather than stepping in. Her account is a retrospective personal recollection; the reporting does not establish a court or investigative finding about consent or liability.
What Shandi Sullivan says happened in Milan
Sullivan recalled being exhausted and having eaten little or nothing before a gathering at the contestants’ Milan house. The gathering involved male models who had driven the contestants during a challenge, and alcohol was present. She said she went into a hot tub, blacked out, and retained only fragments of what followed, including memories of being in a shower and in a bed. These details are Sullivan’s account as reported by Rolling Stone Canada, not an independently established account of every event.
In the original broadcast, the man was referred to only as the “Italian guy.” The later docuseries and the magazine interview did not identify him. Rolling Stone reported that Sullivan did not report the incident at the time and that the man was never charged with a crime.
How the 2004 episode framed the incident
The Cycle 2 episode was titled “The Girl Who Cheated.” It presented the Milan events as a betrayal of Sullivan’s boyfriend, Eric, showing her distress and her call to him. That framing shaped the scandal viewers saw at the time: a relationship story centered on whether Sullivan had been unfaithful.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Sullivan’s later account shifts the focus. Rather than describing a clear, remembered choice to cheat, she says she was heavily intoxicated, blacked out, and remembers only fragments. The retrospective account challenges the original episode’s framing, but it does not by itself establish a legal conclusion about what occurred.
What Sullivan says production should have done
Sullivan criticized the crew for filming instead of intervening. “If you see somebody that’s blackout drunk and you see a guy messing with her, you could have just stepped in and called it a wrap,” she told Rolling Stone. She also said: “Someone should have intervened. Someone should have said ‘We need to put the cameras down and just go get her,’”

In Reality Check, Sullivan revisited what she remembered and questioned the decision to keep filming. The docuseries brings production’s role into the discussion: not only what the original episode showed, but what people working on the show did—or did not do—while the incident unfolded.
How the docuseries differs from the original episode
| Aspect | 2004 Cycle 2 episode | Retrospective account |
|---|---|---|
| Framing | Presented as a cheating storyline, in an episode titled “The Girl Who Cheated.” | Sullivan describes a blackout and a traumatic experience; she criticizes production’s decision to keep filming. |
| What viewers hear or see | Her distress and phone call to her boyfriend, Eric. | Sullivan’s later recollection and scrutiny of production’s response. |
| Production voices | The episode’s storyline foregrounded the relationship scandal. | Executive producer Ken Mok defended the show’s documentary-style approach; Tyra Banks said discussing production was difficult and outside her territory. |
| What the account establishes | The program’s portrayal and title, not an independent finding about what happened. | Sullivan’s attributed recollection and criticism, not a court or investigative determination. |
Mok told Rolling Stone, quoting his remarks in the docuseries: “We treated Top Model as a documentary, and we told the girls that. There’s going to be cameras with you 24/7, and they’re going to cover everything, the good, the bad, and everything in between,” Banks said in the docuseries, as quoted by Rolling Stone: “I do remember her story. It’s a little difficult for me to talk about production because that’s not my territory.”

TIME’s coverage of the docuseries notes that it does not formally label the incident sexual assault. TIME also reproduced Sullivan’s retrospective statement: “I was blacked out. No one did anything to stop it. And it all got filmed, all of it.” The distinction matters: a participant’s recollection, a program’s editing and labels, and an adjudicated finding are different kinds of evidence.

The available reporting establishes what Sullivan has said, how the 2004 episode framed the incident, and how Mok and Banks responded in the docuseries. It does not identify the man, report a charge, or provide a court or investigative finding about consent or liability. Those limits do not erase Sullivan’s account; they define what can responsibly be stated as fact.
