The game points to environmental cataclysms followed by humanity’s evacuation from Earth—not a confirmed event in which all humans were killed. The precise disaster, when people left, and what ultimately happened to them remain unresolved.
What the game establishes at the start
The official premise is a settlement where people and Pokémon once lived, but its vegetation has withered and its residents have vanished. Ditto awakens after a long slumber, takes human form, meets Tangrowth, and sets about rebuilding the town with Pokémon. The Pokémon Company’s overview establishes disappearance and ecological decline, but does not explain their cause.
The Pokémon Company’s November 13, 2025 overview describes the setting this way: “In a town where humans and Pokémon once lived, the grass and trees have withered, and even the residents have completely vanished.”
What later clues suggest about the evacuation
A spoiler-marked story guide from Insider Gaming interprets later in-game clues as indicating that cataclysmic events damaged the environment and atmosphere, prompting humans to leave Earth for space. It describes damage in areas represented as parts of Kanto: a barren former Fuchsia City area, volcanic ash around Pewter City, and floating remains of Celadon and Saffron.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The guide also reports that Team Rocket built rockets used in the escape. It reads hidden lore about limited fuel as suggesting the journey may have been one-way. These details are the guide’s account of in-game clues, not a quoted explanation from the developers. The destination and the evacuees’ ultimate fate are not resolved in that account.
Insider Gaming’s March 12, 2026 guide is explicitly marked for major spoilers.

What “wiped out” gets wrong
“Wiped out” implies that the story confirms humanity died. The available account instead points to evacuation: people left Earth after environmental devastation. The game’s vanished residents and ruined landscape establish the mystery, but do not prove that humans became extinct.
Nor does the account identify climate change, a particular volcanic event, a Pokémon attack, or any other single named disaster as the canonical cause. The careful description is environmental cataclysms followed by evacuation; a more specific explanation goes beyond what these sources establish.

What remains unknown
- The exact cause: No single disaster is established as the explanation for the environmental damage.
- When people left: The guide says the game does not specify how long ago the evacuation happened.
- Where they went and what became of them: The reported rocket clues suggest departure into space, but the destination and eventual outcome remain unsettled.
- Whether they return: The guide says no humans appear in the game. A credits vision involving Ditto’s trainer and a rocket is treated as potentially imaginary, not proof of a return.
How to read the evidence
There are three different levels of certainty here. The official overview confirms the withered setting and vanished residents. A secondary guide interprets later story clues as evidence of an evacuation after environmental cataclysms. Fan explanations that name a specific cause or claim a confirmed human extinction go further than either source.
Pokopia presents this mystery within a rebuilding-focused life simulation: Ditto looks human, and the player’s task is to help restore a desolate world. The mystery provides context for that setting, but the evidence cited above does not settle every detail of humanity’s history.
