What is Paani about?
The story is set in Nagderwadi, a drought-stricken village in Nanded, Maharashtra. Hanumant Kendre works to tackle the water shortage affecting the community. The film presents this as a dramatic story; its premise should not be read as a measurement of present-day water conditions in the village or the wider region.

Kothare directed the film and plays Hanumant. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is among its co-producers, according to Scroll’s trailer coverage.
Why did Addinath Kothare choose water scarcity as the subject?
At an International Film Festival of India conversation reported by the Press Information Bureau on November 25, 2019, Kothare said he chose the subject to bring attention to water scarcity. He described a divide between metropolitan life and conditions in rural Maharashtra, saying people in cities can be detached from the crisis in the state’s interior. The PIB account of the conversation explains his motivation; it does not establish the current scale of water scarcity.
