Full-manga spoilers: This ranking includes major battles and outcomes from the complete Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga, including events beyond the anime adaptation. Gyomei Himejima is the strongest Hashira by the Corps’ own in-world reputation; the order of the other eight is an evidence-based interpretation of their combat effectiveness, not an official ranking.
How this ranking defines strength
“Strength” here means demonstrated effectiveness in combat against the manga’s most formidable opponents. It includes technique, endurance, adaptability, power-ups, tactical value and contribution to a victory—not just physical power or the result of a one-on-one duel. The series has no official score or complete ordered ranking for all nine Hashira. Official material calls Gyomei the strongest, but placements below him require comparing manga feats and remain open to reasonable disagreement.
These comparisons also involve different circumstances: some fighters face opponents with allies, some have access to later power-ups, and some are judged from a smaller set of battles. The anime character profiles establish identities and selected traits; the full manga provides the broader evidence for this list.
Every Hashira ranked
1. Gyomei Himejima — Stone Hashira
Gyomei is the clearest first-place choice. The official Infinity Castle character page says Corps members regard him as the strongest Hashira. His endgame battles reinforce that reputation: he demonstrates exceptional physical power, composure and skill against the series’ most dangerous opponents. The reputation is official in-world context; placing him first in a comparative ranking is also supported by reading his manga performance alongside the other Hashira’s.

2. Sanemi Shinazugawa — Wind Hashira
Sanemi’s case rests on his survival and sustained contribution in the highest-level endgame fights. His results reflect more than technique alone: tenacity and unusual endurance matter, as does the support he receives from allies. That combination makes him one of the strongest overall combatants, though a shared battle is not a clean measure of individual strength. His identity as the Wind Hashira is confirmed on the official anime character page; this placement is an interpretation of manga events.
3. Obanai Iguro — Serpent Hashira
Obanai’s strongest evidence comes late in the manga, especially in the final battle. His sustained contribution there says more about his capabilities than his comparatively limited earlier exposure. That late showing supports a high placement, but his position relative to Sanemi and Giyu is debatable: the battles do not provide an isolated, controlled comparison among them.
4. Giyu Tomioka — Water Hashira
Giyu’s fights across the manga show adaptability and staying power against top-tier demons. His record is substantial, but survival and contribution to a joint victory should not be treated as interchangeable measures—or as proof that one fighter independently defeated an opponent. His position near Obanai and Sanemi reflects a comparison of performances under different conditions, not a definitive one-on-one result.
5. Muichiro Tokito — Mist Hashira
Muichiro’s rise is extraordinary: his official profile says he became a Hashira after only two months of training. His manga feats show remarkable potential, including major endgame contributions. But potential, a peak powered-up performance and a veteran’s experience are different things. His youth and the degree of help involved in particular fights make direct comparisons with older Hashira difficult.

6. Mitsuri Kanroji — Love Hashira
Mitsuri’s official profile describes her as having exceptional strength despite her slight appearance. Her unusual physique, flexibility and fighting style make her a dangerous specialist, and her value is not captured by a simple ranking of raw power. Her placement weighs her combat performance and matchup utility against the stronger endgame records above her; a reader prioritizing physical strength or a particular matchup could reasonably rank her differently.
7. Tengen Uzui — former Sound Hashira
Tengen brings extensive battle experience and distinctive physical and tactical advantages. The comparison is complicated by timing: after the Entertainment District battle, he lost an eye and an arm and retired, as his official profile notes. He is therefore best assessed as a peak active Hashira, not as though he had fought in the later endgame battles or gained the same opportunities as those who remained active.
8. Kyojuro Rengoku — Flame Hashira
Rengoku’s Mugen Train battle is a powerful demonstration of courage and skill, but it provides a narrower comparison base than the later endgame fights. Losing to an Upper Rank opponent is not, on its own, a complete measure of his ability: matchup, circumstances and the absence of later power-ups all matter. This lower placement reflects the available comparison, not a claim that one loss settles his standing.
9. Shinobu Kocho — Insect Hashira
Shinobu is the hardest Hashira to rank if “strength” is understood as conventional sword power. The manga’s dialogue identifies her as the one Hashira unable to decapitate a demon, while emphasizing the demon-killing poison she uses. Her combat effectiveness depends on poison expertise, planning, weapon choice and creating a win condition—not on winning a contest of raw force. A ranking focused on tactical value or specialized demon-killing methods could place her higher.

Why the middle of the ranking is debatable
There is no single axis that cleanly orders the Hashira. Raw physical strength, speed, endurance, technique, tactical intelligence, peak power-ups and team contribution can point to different conclusions. Mitsuri’s exceptional physique and Shinobu’s poison specialization make the distinction especially clear. Endgame group battles also reveal how fighters perform under pressure, but do not isolate each person’s contribution from allies or circumstances.
Time matters, too. Tengen retired before the later battles, while some other Hashira are judged by their strongest endgame performances. This list compares demonstrated combat effectiveness while noting that gap; it does not pretend each character fought the same opponents in the same condition.
Where to check the full manga evidence
The official Kimetsu no Yaiba comics page lists manga volumes 1–23 and related books. The complete manga is the most direct way to check the full spoiler-heavy set of feats behind this ranking. The official Hashira Training Arc character page provides selected profiles, while the Infinity Castle film character page gives Gyomei’s in-world reputation as the strongest. A full ordered list of all nine is not supplied by those official pages.
