What happens in “Touched By An Ángel”?
In the ninth episode of Dexter: Resurrection, Prater’s interest in Dexter and Charley’s investigation of Harrison converge on a trap. Under his “Red” persona, Prater draws closer to Dexter and Harrison. Charley questions Harrison about his past and obtains his fingerprints. Dexter discovers that she is working for Prater and confronts her. When he learns Prater has helped pay her mother’s bills, Dexter lets Charley go and arranges to meet Prater, intending to kill him.

Meanwhile, Angel Batista keeps pursuing Dexter. Local detectives urge Batista to leave town or face arrest, but a photograph linking Prater to a gala gives him a reason to press on. At the event, Batista tells Prater who Dexter really is. The revelation sets up the confrontation at Prater’s mansion.

At the mansion, Charley holds Dexter at gunpoint and takes him to a vault, where Batista is restrained. Prater identifies Dexter as the Bay Harbor Butcher and offers to become his benefactor, with one condition: Dexter must kill Batista as proof of loyalty.

Dexter refuses. He frees Batista, who attacks him. During the struggle, Prater shoots Batista in the back. Dexter is left alone with his dying former colleague.
Does Angel Batista die in “Touched By An Ángel”?
Yes. Batista dies from Prater’s gunshot wound. His final exchange with Dexter makes the loss more than a sudden turn in the mansion’s standoff: Batista does not accept Dexter’s attempt to draw a line between the crimes he committed and the deaths he says he did not cause.

What does Dexter confess to Batista?
As Batista is dying, Dexter admits that he is the Bay Harbor Butcher. He also insists that he did not kill James Doakes or Maria LaGuerta. Batista rejects that distinction, telling Dexter he is responsible for the deaths around him, including Batista’s. Dexter’s confession does not reconcile them; Batista dies, and Dexter’s scream of grief and rage ends the episode.
