The tequila brand launched the “Official Tequila Of” campaign on May 2, 2024, a day before National No Pants Day, naming Pantalones the “Official Tequila of Pickleball.”
What happens in the Pantalones pickleball ad?
The video features Pantalones co-founders Matthew and Camila McConaughey in pickleball outfits, making a pickle margarita and jokingly declaring their tequila the sport’s official drink. The brand’s May 2, 2024 announcement said almost all of its campaign work that year would be pants-free. The campaign’s central gag plays on the name: pantalones means “pants” in Spanish, so the founders appear in settings where going without them becomes the joke.
The announcement also described a print execution that parodied the 1970s “Tennis Girl” poster. The founders summed up the campaign’s attitude in the release: “We’re precious about our tequila, not our pants.” They also said they wanted to remind people that tequila is meant to be fun. Why are the McConaugheys pantless?
It is a brand-name joke, not a pickleball rule or a claim about how the couple normally plays. By putting its founders in pants-free situations, Pantalones turns the Spanish word for pants into the campaign’s recurring visual gag. The May 2024 announcement timed the launch for the day before National No Pants Day, making that joke especially easy to recognize.

What is Pantalones Organic Tequila?
Matthew and Camila McConaughey introduced Pantalones in October 2023, with Blanco, Reposado and Añejo expressions. The launch announcement described the tequila as made with organic blue Weber agave at a certified-organic, family-owned distillery in Amatitán, Jalisco; those are claims made by the brand, not independent production findings. The three expressions, as the brand described them
| Expression | Brand-reported aging | Brand-reported tasting notes |
|---|---|---|
| Blanco | Not stated in the cited launch announcement | Not stated in the cited launch announcement |
| Reposado | Nine months | Not stated in the cited launch announcement |
| Añejo | 15 months | Not stated in the cited launch announcement |
The May 2024 campaign announcement reported competition medals for the expressions: Añejo received Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Blanco received Gold and Reposado Bronze. These are awards as reported by Pantalones in 2024, not an independent comparison of the tequilas. Pantalones’ May 2, 2024 announcement

Does the ad provide a pickle margarita recipe?
The announcement says the founders make a pickle margarita, but it does not give verified ingredient quantities or a complete recipe. Any measurements presented elsewhere should not be mistaken for a confirmed recipe from this campaign. The release also does not identify a pickleball paddle brand or model, so the ad is not evidence of a specific equipment endorsement.

In September 2024, Pantalones announced expanded distribution through Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits and said the brand would be available in liquor stores, bars and restaurants nationwide. That was a dated distribution announcement; it does not establish that a particular shop currently carries a bottle or that every state has the same availability.
