It follows their school project—not a dramatization of Stalin’s life—and the questions of power and control that emerge as the boys engage with a difficult subject.
What is Stalin Boys about?
The film follows four middle-school students as they become fascinated by Joseph Stalin and develop a history-fair play about the Soviet dictator and his efforts to destroy opponents. The production synopsis describes the project as bringing the students face to face with ideas about power and control. That makes the film a documentary about children learning and performing history, rather than a historical drama about Stalin.
Shine Global says the film was shot in Marathon, Texas, where the middle school had 11 students in 2026. That detail gives the school setting context; it is not a measure of the film’s educational impact.
Who made the film?
Stalin Boys was directed by Ora DeKornfeld and Bianca Giaever. Masa Films lists Alejandra Vasquez, Sam Osborn, DeKornfeld, and Giaever as producers. The production company lists the short as a 2026 U.S. film in English and color.
