Artist Marie Connole, who has strong Offaly links rooted in childhood visits to family, features in TG4’s documentary Cill Stuifín. The programme explores the Clare coast’s legendary reef and the story of a sunken city, with Connole’s artwork among its perspectives. TG4 lists the broadcast for Tuesday 13 October 2026 at 21:30.
Who is the artist with Offaly links?
Marie Connole is a west-of-Ireland artist with personal ties to Offaly. She spent summers visiting relatives in Clonsast, near Bracknagh GAA club, and recalls places including Edenderry and Rathangan. She has described the connection plainly: “I have very strong memories of Offaly from childhood.”
Connole also remembers how the landscape shaped her experience of nature: “I remember the bogs, the woods and the trees. The landscape was so different from north Clare, but it became an important part of how I experienced the natural world.” Her Offaly connection is biographical context; the documentary itself is about the Clare coast and the Cill Stuifín legend.
What is the documentary about?
Cill Stuifín examines a reef off the Clare coast associated in local legend with a submerged city. TG4 describes a documentary bringing together folklore, marine science, surfing, artists and local voices. Geologists investigate the reef, and a marine scientist dives at the site. The film was directed by Kev L. Smith and runs for 61 minutes, according to the Galway Film Fleadh programme, where it had its world premiere on 8 July 2026.

Connole’s wider practice includes painting, illustration and installation; the local report also notes her exhibition history and illustration work.
