FREEDOM, a feature documentary from Fish Tales Production Company, was named one of five finalists in the 54th Annual ICVM Crown Awards’ Best Non-Theatrical Release category, according to a producer-issued announcement dated October 6, 2026. The announcement says Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards will be announced at the NRB Convention in February 2027, so finalist status is not a win.
What does the ICVM finalist announcement mean?

The ICVM page describes the awards, but does not independently list this year’s finalists. The placement is therefore attributable to the producer’s announcement, rather than independently confirmed by the awards page. Gold, Silver, and Bronze results are expected at the NRB Convention in February 2027, according to that same announcement.
What is the FREEDOM documentary about?
The film’s official website presents FREEDOM as an examination of counseling choice and makes a case for voluntary, faith-based counseling. Its executive producer, Wayne Blakely, writes: “What I oppose is the criminalization of voluntary, faith-based counseling.” This is Blakely’s stated position and the film’s viewpoint—not a neutral finding about legislation or legal policy.

The producer’s announcement says the documentary was filmed in Malta, Poland, Singapore, Ireland, and the United States, and includes more than forty interviewees, among them activists, counselors, attorneys, pastors, and people with firsthand experience. These are production details reported by the filmmakers; they do not establish the prevalence or legal status of counseling restrictions in those countries.
The announcement also quotes Blakely as saying, “Every person deserves the right to seek counsel that aligns with their own beliefs.” That expresses his view, not a legal determination.
