TheWrap reported that the circulating edit was fan-made and that no official pilot trailer had been produced. The CW never ordered the project to series, and in 2023 it stopped developing it.
Was the leaked Powerpuff Girls trailer real?
The footage reportedly came from the CW’s scrapped live-action pilot, but the video assembled from it was not an authorized trailer. TheWrap, citing CW sources, said the pilot never had an official trailer and described the circulating cut as a fan-made collection of scenes. Gizmodo reported that Warner Bros. blocked the initial upload on copyright grounds. Those reports establish neither that the full pilot was released nor where the edit can legally be watched now.
The distinction matters: authentic footage from a production does not make a fan edit an official preview, and a short collection of scenes is not the same as a publicly released pilot episode.
What the leaked edit reportedly showed
The CW project recast Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup as twentysomething women whose lives had diverged from their childhood superhero identities. In the premise described by TheWrap, Townsville turns against the trio, who split up before a new threat brings them back together.

Gizmodo described the circulating edit as roughly three and a half minutes long, narrated by Tom Kenny. It showed Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, Yana Perrault as Buttercup, Donald Faison as Professor Utonium, Robyn Lively as Sara Bellum and Nicholas Podany as Joseph “Jojo” Mondel Jr. The reported scenes included Blossom leaving home, Buttercup becoming a firefighter, and Bubbles struggling with alcohol while trying unsuccessfully to become an influencer. The edit’s story summary involved a reunion after Mojo Jojo’s death and a scheme connected to Jojo’s son.
TheWrap also described Bubbles drunkenly burping and Buttercup objecting to her green dress. These are accounts of moments in the circulating edit, not confirmation that the pilot was finished, that all the described scenes would have remained in a final cut, or that a series was made.

What happened to the CW reboot?
The project was ordered in 2020, according to TheWrap. Its first pilot was filmed in early 2021, with Bennet, Cameron and Perrault in the leading roles. The CW did not pick it up to series. In May 2021, then-network chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz said the pilot missed tonally and that the network would return to the drawing board. TheWrap later reported that the pilot was being redone.
In August 2021, Bennet left the reworked project after Warner Bros. TV sought to extend her option. TheWrap attributed her exit to scheduling conflicts and reported that casting for a new Blossom was expected to begin that fall. The initial pilot and the proposed rework were therefore separate stages; the leaked footage was reported as coming from the scrapped project, not as proof that the later version was completed.

On May 18, 2023, the CW confirmed the series was no longer being redeveloped. Network entertainment president Brad Schwartz told TVLine that the projects had been returned to the studios, which could develop and sell them elsewhere. That statement did not mean the reboot had been sold, ordered by another network, or released.
Why did the original pilot miss?
Pedowitz said the first pilot “didn’t feel as rooted in reality as it might’ve felt” and that the network wanted to step back and return to the drawing board. He also called it “a little too campy” and said, “Sometimes things miss, and this was just a miss.” The comments referred to the initial pilot and the decision to rework it; they do not establish why the project ultimately ended in 2023.

Can you watch the full pilot?
The reporting cited here does not establish a legal place to watch the circulating edit or the full pilot, or whether the pilot will ever be released. Warner Bros. reportedly blocked the first upload on copyright grounds, so an online copy should not be treated as an authorized release. TheWrap’s account of CW sources says no official trailer was made.
