Sung Kang’s documented real-life cars include a 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV he bought from the Fast X studio and the Fugu Z, his best-known 1973 Datsun 240Z build. Other cars associated with him tell different stories: a Mazda RX-7 he sold years ago, collaborative builds, and film cars whose ownership is not established. The distinction matters: Han’s cars and cars Kang helped create are not automatically cars in his private garage.
Which cars has Sung Kang owned?
Public interviews document a small number of personal cars at particular points in Kang’s life, not a complete, current inventory. The clearest current-ownership statement in the sources cited here is about the Alfa Romeo GTV. His 1993 Mazda RX-7 belongs to his earlier car history; he said he sold it.
| Car | What the record establishes | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV | Kang said he bought the car used in Fast X from the studio. | He said in 2023 that it was in his home garage. |
| Fugu Z, 1973 Datsun 240Z | Identified as owned by Kang and built with collaborators. | Established as his car and build; SEMA reported its 10-year anniversary return in 2025. |
| 1993 Mazda FD RX-7 | A red, factory-condition car given to him by his parents after college. | Former car; Kang said he sold it to help with a home down payment. |
| Ford Maverick, Project Underdog | A collaborative build with students and fabricator Steve Strope. | Project association is documented; private ownership is not established. |
| “78,” Veilside 240Z | SEMA called it Kang’s latest creation in its October 2025 announcement. | Creation/build association; private ownership is not specified. |
| “Lola,” Toyota Corolla AE86 | Identified as the hero car for Kang’s film DRIFTER. | Film use; private ownership is not specified. |
Fugu Z: the signature 240Z build
Fugu Z is a 1973 Datsun 240Z associated with Kang as owner and builder. PlayStation Blog’s Gran Turismo Awards coverage describes the car with an RB26DE engine and a Pandem body kit by TRA Kyoto; GReddy Racing and other partners contributed to the project. Those details describe the Fugu Z, not every 240Z connected to Kang.
Kang told MotorTrend in 2016 that getting involved with Cars and Coffee inspired him to build a car with friends. The result became a prominent show build rather than just a movie prop. SEMA’s October 2025 announcement said the Fugu Z returned for its 10-year anniversary, a later appearance that does not independently establish a new ownership status.

The Alfa Romeo GTV from Fast X
In a May 2023 Autoweek interview, Kang explained that Han’s Fast X car was a 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV, then made the key ownership distinction: “And that car, I actually purchased from the studio, I have it in my home garage.” That is the clearest direct account of a film car becoming one of Kang’s real-life cars.
Autoweek also describes modifications to the stunt car, including Alfaholics suspension and wheels and a 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost engine. The interview does not establish that Kang’s purchased car has those same stunt-car specifications, so they should not be treated as a confirmed description of his garage GTV.

The RX-7 he sold to buy a home
Kang has described his first notable car as a red, factory-condition 1993 Mazda FD RX-7 his parents gave him after college. In the 2023 Autoweek interview, he recalled that maintenance, insurance and turbo repairs were beyond his budget, and that he eventually sold the car to put money toward a down payment on his first home. It is an important part of his car history, not evidence of a current collection holding.
Builds and movie cars that should not be counted as confirmed personal cars
Project Underdog: a collaborative Ford Maverick
Project Underdog was a Ford Maverick build that Kang developed with students in Alhambra Unified School District’s automotive technician program and designer-fabricator Steve Strope. MotorTrend reported a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder for the project. Kang described wanting to share the experience rather than collect cars or turn it into a business. SEMA later included Project Underdog among his previously debuted builds, but neither account establishes that the Maverick is a privately owned car in his collection.

“78” and “Lola” at SEMA
SEMA’s October 21, 2025 press release says Kang debuted “78,” a Veilside 240Z it calls his latest creation. It also identifies “Lola,” a Toyota Corolla AE86, as the hero car for his film DRIFTER. These descriptions establish their build and film roles, not private ownership of every car involved in production.
The orange Datsun 510 belongs to Eric Aguilar
An interviewer asked Kang about an orange 510; Kang corrected the assumption: “I don’t own the 510, that’s Eric Aguilar of Eric’s Garage.” He referred to Aguilar as “Doc Z.” The orange Datsun therefore should not be included among Kang’s personal cars.

What this documented snapshot can—and cannot—say
The vehicles span a former personal sports car, a classic Japanese show build, a film car Kang said he purchased, and collaborative or production-related projects. Their purposes and ownership evidence differ, so a single undifferentiated list would blur important distinctions. The public accounts cited here do not provide a complete current garage inventory, a verified collection-size figure, or comparable valuations.
