Marie Claire’s October 2026 account describes Catherine, Princess of Wales, in red running-style shorts and a simple T-shirt during the National Three Peaks Challenge. It also names a Fjällräven jacket and Brasher hiking boots, and mentions a simple backpack. The report does not identify the shorts, T-shirt or backpack by brand or model, nor does it establish exact models for the jacket and boots. Marie Claire’s account of the outfit presents it as unfussy gear, in contrast to the polished designer looks often associated with royal fashion coverage.
Kristen Geil, Gear & Affiliate Director at Outside Interactive, described the accessible impression this way: “To my surprise, I saw clothes that I could conceivably have in my closet.” She also stressed that the clothing was not what carried Catherine to the summit: “At the end of the day, Kate’s gear isn’t what got her to that final peak; it was her determination and her dedication to the cause.” Both remarks are attributed to Geil in Marie Claire’s coverage.
How to adapt the look for a workout or hike
The most useful takeaway is the outfit’s straightforward combination, not an exact replica: athletic shorts and a comfortable performance T-shirt for movement, with outdoor layers and footwear suited to the route and conditions. The report does not establish that every item was chosen for a specific technical feature, so it is not evidence of a tested gear setup.

- If you want the look rather than a precise match: Focus on simple, practical pieces. The shorts, T-shirt and backpack models were not identified in the coverage.
The bag-and-shoe styling tip is a separate idea
In separate Marie Claire styling coverage, fashion expert Monica Marriott-Mills suggests matching a bag to shoes and keeping an outfit to no more than three colors: “If you can color match your bag to your shoes, and wear no more than three colors in total, your outfit will just work,” she says. That is her general styling advice, not a description of Catherine’s Three Peaks outfit. Marie Claire’s account of Marriott-Mills’s styling advice also discusses a “sandwich method”: match the shoes and top, then use a different color for the skirt or trousers. These are adaptable suggestions rather than formal rules.
How the challenge outfit differs from Kate’s other sporty looks
Sportswear for an outdoor challenge is different from clothing worn to watch a sporting event. At the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on 1 August 2026, Catherine’s spectator outfit was reported as a deep green Ralph Lauren blazer, a striped La Ligne knit vest, a white pleated skirt, cream slingback pumps and a woven tote. Woman & Home interpreted the pale skirt as brightening the deeper green and the combination as adaptable across seasons. Neither that smart-casual look nor her everyday outfits should be confused with the Three Peaks gear.
