Suge Knight’s Collect Call With Suge Knight was built from prison collect-call conversations that people outside the facility agreed to accept. Dave Mays and Breakbeat Media then packaged those conversations as a podcast and video series. The reporting describes Knight as the source of the conversations—not as someone operating recording or publishing equipment inside prison.
How the podcast was made
Knight’s calls provided the conversations
FOX 11 described Collect Call With Suge Knight as a compilation of raw, uncut conversations with people who took Knight’s collect calls. That is the documented core of the format: conversations originated in calls from prison, and outside participants were part of them. FOX 11’s April 1, 2024 report does not specify the phone equipment, recording setup, or how the calls were captured.
Dave Mays and Breakbeat Media shaped the series
TMZ identified Dave Mays as Breakbeat Media’s CEO and a co-founder of The Source. Apple Podcasts describes Mays as the show’s creator and curator. Breakbeat turned the conversations into a recurring audio and video release, with the Apple listing crediting Brett Jeffries and Toi-Lin Kelly as executive producers and Legend Knight and Vince Ewing as producers. TMZ’s October 20, 2023 launch report and the Apple Podcasts listing provide those details.
What the show was supposed to cover
The original pitch combined hip-hop commentary with Knight’s reflections on his own experience. TMZ reported that the show would address artists discussing Knight and his views on Snoop Dogg’s ownership of Death Row. Mays said Knight wanted younger listeners to learn from both his good and bad experiences. These are the creators’ stated aims, not independent confirmation of claims made in the episodes.

Mays also framed Breakbeat as a platform for what he called a “truthful and authentic perspective.” That was a promotional statement by a partner in the project, not an outside assessment of the show’s accuracy. TMZ quoted Mays in its launch coverage.
Launch plan and what is known about the schedule
When TMZ reported the launch on October 20, 2023, it said about five half-hour conversations had been prepared. That was a reported estimate at announcement, not a verified final episode count. The report said a preview was planned for October 24 and the official launch for Halloween 2023. The release plan was weekly audio episodes on Thursdays and video on Fridays.

The accounts describe the source and format of the conversations, but not the full technical workflow. They do not identify a recording device, explain prison approval procedures, say who edited any individual call, or confirm that every conversation was recorded through the prison phone system in the same way. FOX 11 reported in April 2024 that Knight was serving a 28-year sentence at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility for voluntary manslaughter in the 2015 killing of Terry Carter. That is incarceration context reported on that date, not confirmation of his present status. A separate Apple Podcasts listing documents a September 25, 2024 interview in which Chris Cuomo spoke with Knight from Richard J. Donovan State Prison; it is a different interview, not part of Collect Call’s production account. FOX 11’s dated report and the Apple listing for the Cuomo interview describe those separate facts.
