Television announced the renewal on March 14, 2025, and Jason Sudeikis was set to return. Since then, Apple has announced the season’s premise, cast additions and release schedule. Here are six developments, with Sudeikis’s renewal-era words distinguished from the later official announcements.
1. Warner Bros. Television confirmed the renewal and Sudeikis’s return
On March 14, 2025, Warner Bros. Television announced that Ted Lasso had been renewed for a fourth season at Apple TV+, with Jason Sudeikis returning as star and executive producer. 2. Sudeikis framed the story around taking chances
In the renewal statement, Sudeikis described the season’s guiding idea: “In season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.” The phrase signals a story about stepping into uncertainty, rather than simply repeating the team’s earlier challenges. The Associated Press reproduced the statement in its coverage of the renewal.
3. Apple gave Ted a new coaching challenge
Apple’s April 28, 2026 season announcement made the premise more specific: Ted returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s football team. Apple also describes the season as centered on taking chances, connecting the premise to the “leap before you look” idea Sudeikis introduced at renewal. 4. Apple named five familiar cast members as returners
Apple’s announcement identifies Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift among the returning cast. It also names Goldstein as a writer and executive producer, and Hunt as an executive producer. The announcement confirms these named participants; it does not establish that the entire earlier ensemble is returning.
5. Seven actors were announced as season-four additions
The new cohort named by Apple comprises Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely. These additions sit alongside the returning performers Apple specifically identified, giving the season a new group of characters around Ted’s women’s-team assignment.

6. The season received a release date and weekly schedule
Apple announced that season 4 would premiere globally on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, with one episode on launch day and new episodes on Wednesdays through October 7, 2026. Apple’s July 28 premiere announcement confirmed the world premiere event. As of October 5, 2026, the final announced episode date was still two days away, so it should not be described as already released. Apple’s release and premiere announcements
