YouTube announced a desktop test of a dedicated “Upcoming live and premieres” section in the Subscriptions feed on September 14, 2020. It separated scheduled events from a channel’s latest uploads and put the soonest events first. YouTube’s current viewer guidance points people to the Live tab to browse upcoming and current live streams and Premieres; the official material available does not confirm whether the older Subscriptions section is still available.
What YouTube tested in the Subscriptions feed
In a September 14, 2020 experiment entry, TeamYouTube described a small desktop test aimed at making scheduled content from subscribed channels easier to find. The section, titled “Upcoming live and premieres,” collected scheduled live streams and Premieres separately from the latest uploads normally shown in Subscriptions.
The announcement said events were ordered with those happening soonest first, followed by later events. Viewers could click a bell to set a reminder for an event going live. YouTube described the feature as a test with a small group of users while it gathered feedback; the post did not specify country availability, eligibility criteria, duration, results, or a full rollout.
Does that dedicated section still exist?
The official sources reviewed do not establish whether YouTube later expanded, ended, or continues to offer the specific Subscriptions-feed test. The 2020 announcement is evidence of what YouTube tested then, not proof that the section is a current feature or is available to every viewer.

Current general YouTube Help guidance for computers instead directs viewers to select Live at the top of YouTube.com to browse upcoming and current live streams and Premieres. Use Notify me on an event to request a notification when it goes live. That documented route should not be confused with confirmation that the old Subscriptions section or its bell control remains in service.
How to find scheduled live streams and Premieres now
- Open YouTube.com on a computer and select Live at the top of the page, as described in YouTube’s computer guidance.
- Browse the upcoming and current live streams and Premieres shown there.
- Select Notify me on an upcoming event if you want YouTube to alert you when it starts.
YouTube defines a live stream as media broadcast in real time, while a Premiere is a new video watched in real time with the creator and community. YouTube also says scheduled live streams and Premieres do not appear in Shorts, so Shorts is not where to look for those scheduled events. See Learn about live streams for those distinctions and limitations.

What affects live-stream notifications?
A reminder requested on an event and channel subscription notifications are not the same setting. YouTube’s subscriber notification troubleshooting guidance says subscribers receive live-stream notifications when they have All notifications enabled for the channel and YouTube notifications enabled for their account and device.
There is an additional timing condition for streams using an encoder: those subscribers are notified after the stream is public and YouTube detects that it is live. A scheduled public stream without detected encoder ingestion will not yet trigger that subscriber notification. These are YouTube’s general notification conditions; they do not demonstrate that the 2020 test’s bell control is still available.

Why the feature attracted attention
The test addressed a discovery problem: a viewer’s Subscriptions feed could show recent uploads while a scheduled event was still in the future. Separating upcoming events gave them a distinct place in the feed and made the nearest start easier to spot. The feature’s apparent utility should not be mistaken for evidence that it became a permanent part of YouTube.
Live viewing remains a substantial part of YouTube use: YouTube reported that, on average, over 30% of daily logged-in viewers watched live content in Q2 2025 in its September 2025 live-streaming update. That figure concerns live viewing overall, not the Subscriptions-feed experiment or upcoming events specifically.
