Moira Rose is funniest when her grand declarations collide with ordinary problems—or when a flash of genuine warmth breaks through the theatrics. Here are ten memorable lines, ranked by a subjective mix of unusual wording, surprise, character revelation and comic timing. The order is an editorial judgment, not an official ranking.
10. “You do realize I’m a professional vocalist?”
Moira’s credentials are never far from the conversation. Faced with a community singing group, she treats the distinction between professional and amateur as self-evident—and expects everyone else to recognize it too. The joke is less about singing than about how quickly she turns a local activity into a stage for her résumé.

9. “I’m positively bedeviled with meetings et cetera.”
“Bedeviled” gives a routine scheduling excuse the drama of a curse, while “et cetera” lets Moira gesture grandly at obligations she need not detail. The sentence is a compact sample of her ornate diction at work.
8. “Your wayfaring thespian has returned.”
Most people would simply announce that they are home. Moira casts herself as a traveling actor returning from an epic journey, making even an entrance into family life an occasion for performance.

7. “I once hosted the non-televised portion of the People’s Choice Awards.”
The line turns a credential into a punchline by including the detail that weakens it. Moira’s pride is so undiminished that even the event’s non-televised portion counts as a glittering social achievement.
6. “Good men always win.”
Moira offers Johnny a simple, sincere bit of encouragement. Its plainness is the point: amid her usual verbal flourishes, a direct statement of loyalty can land with surprising warmth.

5. “I can hardly hear you, John! The cheering and accolades are drowning out your gentle voice.”
Moira imagines applause so loudly that it overwhelms Johnny in conversation. The boast is funny because it is so extravagantly self-congratulatory—and because she presents the fantasy as if it were an ordinary inconvenience.
4. “The last time I felt this emotionally encumbered, I was playing Lady Macbeth on a Crystal Skies cruise ship during Shakespeare at Sea Week.”
“Emotionally encumbered” is already a melodramatic way to describe feeling burdened. Moira then supplies a remarkably specific theatrical memory, complete with a cruise ship and a themed Shakespeare week. The detail makes her imagined professional history feel larger—and stranger—than the moment requires.

3. “It’s probably nothing but I think I’ve killed a man.”
The line’s dark joke is its casual opening. “Probably nothing” is the sort of reassurance used for a minor mishap; what follows is anything but minor. Moira’s composed understatement creates the shock.
2. “Never let the bastards get you down!”
Moira’s advice to Jocelyn while helping with drama has the force of a rallying cry. The bluntness cuts through her usual decorative language, and the result feels both comic and sincerely encouraging.
1. “What is the source of this falsehood? And what photo are they using?”
On learning that the internet thinks she is dead, Moira’s first questions are not about how the rumor began or how to correct it. She wants to know its source—and which photograph is attached. The response distills her instinct for self-presentation into one perfectly misplaced priority.

Moira’s comedy is not just a matter of accent or unusual vocabulary. It comes from the tension between her theatrical self-image and the small-town situations around her, from unexpected shifts between bravado and vulnerability, and from the precision of Catherine O’Hara’s performance. In a Los Angeles Times interview, O’Hara said she loved playing Moira and had freedom to rewrite dialogue. She specifically identified the speech encouraging Stevie to take photographs of herself as one she wrote, not every line attributed to the character. O’Hara also described asking to wear wigs and traced their origin to a mood, a choice that helped make Moira’s appearance part of her expressive vocabulary.
Best Value
Schitt’s Creek ran for six seasons, from 2015 to 2020. Disney+ describes its premise as the formerly wealthy Rose family relocating to a small town they once bought as a joke; its listing identifies Catherine O’Hara as Moira. Catalog availability varies by territory and date. The Television Academy’s 2020 awards record lists O’Hara as the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series winner for Schitt’s Creek and the show as Outstanding Comedy Series.
