Where is the house?
The property is at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois, a Chicago-area suburb. It is a private residence, not a public film attraction; reporting around its 2024 listing noted concerns about visitors and privacy.
What is its connection to the film?
The house is a real exterior filming location associated with the 1990 film Home Alone. It is not accurate to assume every interior scene was filmed inside the residence: The Guardian reported that all exterior scenes were filmed on location, while only selected interiors were used and other interiors were recreated on a sound stage. The Washington Post also noted that renovations mean the present-day house is not exactly as it appeared in the movie.

What is the house like now?
FOX 32 reported that the home was built in 1921 and renovated and expanded in 2018. Its reported specifications were 9,126 square feet, five bedrooms and six bathrooms. Realtor.com described the size as about 9,100 square feet and reported that the renovation added modern features including an open kitchen, a home theater and an indoor sports court, while retaining recognizable details such as the entry staircase.
When was it listed and sold?
The house was listed on May 24, 2024. Realtor.com reported that it drew a buyer within a week, but the transaction took more than seven months to close. FOX 32 published its closing report on January 16, 2025. The reported sale price should not be confused with the earlier asking price of $5.25 million.

What did it sell for previously?
FOX 32 and Realtor.com reported that the property sold for $1.585 million in March 2012. That earlier sale price does not, by itself, show the cost of the later renovation or explain the change in value.

The buyers’ identities were not established in the January 16, 2025 reports. Realtor.com said buyer information was not readily available. Buyers’ agent Lori Nieman told Mansion Global, in comments carried by Realtor.com: “They want to be stewards of the home for a long time to come.”
