Saturday Night Live’s November 15, 2025 cold open turned questions about the Epstein files into a White House press-briefing parody. Ashley Padilla played Karoline Leavitt and James Austin Johnson played Donald Trump; the sketch’s jokes about evasive answers and withheld files were scripted satire, not evidence about what the documents prove.
What happened in the cold open?
The sketch began with Padilla’s Leavitt fielding questions about Trump’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. She insisted the emails showed Trump had done nothing wrong, then delivered an intentionally provocative punchline: “If anything, his crime was loving too much — and possibly too young.”
Johnson’s Trump then took questions. His character claimed he barely knew Epstein while referring to alleged photographs of the two at parties. He also quipped, “I am hiding almost nothing — just enough to make it extremely suspicious.” A reporter, played by Kenan Thompson, pressed the contradiction in the character’s explanation: if there were nothing incriminating, why conceal anything?
The closing gag extended the joke into a mock sales pitch. The character offered the files in a “very specific format,” holding up a gold-framed, low-resolution printout and naming a fictional price of $800 before calling it a stocking stuffer. It was a satirical prop and invented offer, not an actual product or report that the files were for sale. TV Insider’s November 16 report describes the sketch and its beats.

Which episode was it?
The cold open aired on the November 15, 2025 episode of Saturday Night Live. TV Insider reported on it the following morning, November 16. Padilla portrayed Leavitt, Johnson portrayed Trump, and Thompson appeared as a reporter.
What was the news context?
TV Insider described rising pressure during the preceding week for the administration to release the files. The report said Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee released documents on November 11, 2025, and that three emails in that release referenced Trump. That specific count is TV Insider’s description of the release; an email reference is not, by itself, proof of wrongdoing.

The sketch used the news dispute as material for political comedy. Its character dialogue, including the claims about what Trump knew or was concealing, should not be read as a factual account of the documents or as a statement by the real people portrayed.
