The headline refers to a Snapchat feature reported at the time as a way to share a username link that let someone add your account directly. That report’s “Share username” menu path is historical; current Snapchat Support instructions instead document sharing your Snapcode, the app’s QR code. Snapchat’s current help pages do not confirm whether the older link control is still available.
What Snapchat’s profile-link headline described
In its report, iMore described a username-sharing link as an alternative to a Snapcode. The historical instructions were to swipe down from the camera view, choose “Add Friends,” then tap “Share username.” Snapchat would open the system share sheet so the link could be sent through another app. iMore said the latest Snapchat version was needed at the time.
Those steps describe the interface reported then, not a verified current route. Snapchat Support’s current instructions cover Snapcode sharing, but do not say whether “Share username” remains in the app or where to find it.
How to share your Snapchat Snapcode now
- Open Snapchat and tap your Profile icon.
- Find the QR code, or Snapcode, beside your display name and username.
- Tap the code to enlarge it.
- Share it on another platform, or save it to your Camera Roll.
These are the current steps in Snapchat Support’s Snapcode-sharing instructions. Snapchat describes the feature this way: “A Snapcode is a special kind of image that you can scan with Snapchat to do different things.” As explained in its Snapcode overview, a code can help someone add a friend, unlock Filters and Lenses, open a website, or connect to exclusive content.

Sharing a code does not change profile visibility
Snapchat says a personal profile is visible only to friends, while a Public Profile is visible to anyone on Snapchat. Sharing a username link or Snapcode is not described as changing those settings.
Public Profiles are optional. Snapchat says they are available to users aged 16 or older in certain countries, with differences in features and settings for 16- and 17-year-olds compared with adults. See Snapchat Support’s Public Profile overview for the qualifications and details.
