Sound! Euphonium 3 took first place in Filmarks’ satisfaction ranking of anime that began airing or streaming in Japan during the first half of 2024. The list, reported by FILMAGA, reflects ratings from eligible Filmarks users—not an official national poll or a ranking of every Japanese viewer’s favorites.
The Filmarks top 10
The following order and figures are from the July 5, 2024 snapshot reported in a Tsumiki Co., Ltd. press release. Scores are out of five; “Mark!” is Filmarks’ review or record count for each title.

How Filmarks decided the ranking
FILMAGA’s report and Tsumiki’s methodology note describe a defined eligibility window, rather than a poll of all anime released or watched in Japan.
- Eligible titles had to begin domestic Japanese broadcast or streaming between January 1 and June 30, 2024.
- Each title needed at least 800 Mark! reviews. Single-episode anime were excluded under the press-release methodology.
- Rank order was based on Filmarks user star ratings. The published ranking shows scores to two decimal places; the service’s ordinary display uses one decimal place.
- When titles had the same score, the one with more Mark! reviews ranked higher.
The score and count pairs above are historical figures from July 5, 2024, not live totals. The review threshold and platform audience shape what the list can show: it measures satisfaction among qualifying Filmarks entries and reviewers. It does not measure TV ratings, streaming views, sales, or the preferences of the Japanese population as a whole.

Why other Japanese rankings named different winners
“Japan’s top anime” depends on who participated and what the ranking measured. Two other 2024 lists illustrate the difference without contradicting Filmarks’ results.
| Source | Who and when | What it measured | First place |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filmarks, as reported by FILMAGA | Eligible Filmarks titles and user ratings; first-half releases, with figures captured July 5 | Satisfaction ranking | Sound! Euphonium 3 |
| AT-X | Subscriber submissions collected August 1–18, 2024 | Subscriber-selected ranking | Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End |
| Anime! Anime! | Readers responding June 27–July 1, 2024 | Reader survey preferences | WIND BREAKER |
These lists use different audiences, collection periods, and ranking approaches. Their winners therefore answer different questions; they should not be combined into one supposedly definitive national order.
Rank #2
What the ranking says—and does not say
Within the Filmarks snapshot, Sound! Euphonium 3 led with 4.54 stars from 1,842 Mark! entries. Hazbin Hotel followed at 4.44 from 3,079, and The Dangers in My Heart Season 2 placed third at 4.37 from 2,292. Those figures describe the ratings recorded for this ranking, not a controlled comparison of viewership or a guarantee that any title will suit an individual viewer.
Review counts also varied considerably: Delicious in Dungeon Season 1 had 6,631 Mark! entries, the largest count in this top ten, while Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc had 872. A larger count means more recorded entries in the snapshot; it does not by itself establish a higher score or greater satisfaction. FILMAGA identifies Delicious in Dungeon as an adaptation of Ryoko Kui’s manga.
