George Wendt’s last reported media appearance before his death was a conversation with Cheers co-stars Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson on SiriusXM’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name. SiriusXM’s article about the episode is dated August 14, 2024. Wendt died on May 20, 2025, aged 76, according to the Associated Press.
What was George Wendt’s last appearance before he died?
The best-supported answer is his appearance on Where Everybody Knows Your Name, the SiriusXM podcast hosted by Danson and Harrelson. SiriusXM’s August 14, 2024 article presents Wendt joining his former castmates for a conversation about Cheers. It is more precise to call it his last reported podcast or media appearance in the sources available than his “final public appearance”: the latter can imply an in-person event, and the record also documents an earlier live stage appearance.

What did Wendt and his co-stars talk about?
The Cheers finale
Danson recalled the cast’s gathering at the Bull and Finch Pub in Boston after filming the series finale. The cast met reporters before the finale and a live Tonight Show segment, and Danson described the drinks and emotions surrounding the broadcast. SiriusXM reproduces his recollection: “We finished shooting and we hadn’t seen each other for two or three months and this was the final goodbye,” he said during the episode.

The day the cast played hooky
The conversation also revisited a day when cast members called in sick to go boating. Danson, Wendt and Harrelson talked about who was aboard, how they arranged to miss work and the uneasy ride. The anecdote was one part of a broader reunion conversation, rather than the defining event of Wendt’s appearance.
Why “final public appearance” needs qualification
Wendt appeared with Cheers castmates onstage at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on January 15, 2024, according to a LOS40 report; the Associated Press obituary also includes a caption identifying him at the ceremony. That appearance predates the 2024 podcast and therefore does not contradict the podcast being his later reported media appearance. It does, however, make an unqualified claim that the podcast was his final public appearance misleading.

The available reporting establishes the podcast as a later documented media appearance, not the last time Wendt appeared in public in any setting. The distinction is between a recorded interview or podcast and an in-person ceremony; the sources do not establish an absolute last public appearance.
