Anneliese van der Pol was not part of Raven’s Home’s regular cast in season five, but she did return as Chelsea for the season’s 100th episode. Disney’s fifth-season reset moved Raven and Booker back to San Francisco and introduced a new family-and-school setup. The public announcements and contemporary coverage describe that cast change, but do not give a specific personal or contractual reason for van der Pol’s departure as a regular.
What changed in Raven’s Home season 5?
When Disney announced the fifth-season order on October 1, 2021, it described a changed premise: Raven and Booker would return to San Francisco to care for Victor after he had a mild heart attack. Raven would also raise her young cousin Alice, while Booker adjusted to being the new kid at Raven’s old high school. Disney’s season-five announcement presented the move and new family circumstances as the season’s central setup.
The season’s cast configuration reflected that shift. Disney named Rondell Sheridan, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Felix Avitia and Emmy Liu-Wang as additions; its later season-five fact sheet listed Raven-Symoné, Issac Ryan Brown, Harris, Avitia, Liu-Wang and Sheridan. Van der Pol was not listed in that regular-cast lineup.
Was Anneliese van der Pol completely absent from season 5?
No. The distinction is that Chelsea was no longer a series-regular role, not that van der Pol never appeared. TVLine’s October 1, 2021 cast-change report said van der Pol, Navia Robinson, Jason Maybaum and Sky Katz would not return as series regulars. Entertainment Tonight also reported the four regular-cast departures alongside the relocation and cast shake-up.

Van der Pol later returned as Chelsea for season five’s 100th episode. TVLine reported the guest appearance on October 14, 2022. That return is why “not in season five” is too broad: she was not a regular, but she did appear as a guest.
Why did she leave the regular cast?
The cited public record does not state van der Pol’s individual reason for no longer being a regular. The available accounts explain the season-level change—a new San Francisco setting, Victor and Alice’s place in the story, and a revised regular-cast lineup—but do not establish whether her departure involved a contract, scheduling, budget, a personal choice, or any other specific cause. Claims that assign one of those motives would go beyond what these sources confirm.

Her 2017 TVLine comments about the original show’s single-mother framing offer context for the earlier premise, not an explanation of the season-five casting decision. She said, “We’re representing single moms all over the world, and I think that’s great.” TVLine’s interview does not address her later status on the series.
