Venus Williams publicly confirmed her engagement to Italian actor Andrea Preti on July 22, 2025, during an on-court interview after winning a singles match at the Mubadala Citi DC Open. The couple later married, according to the WTA’s December 2025 report.
What did Venus Williams say about the engagement?
Speaking with former player Rennae Stubbs after her match, Williams thanked Preti, who was in attendance, and said: “My fiancé is here and he really encouraged me to keep playing.” The WTA treated the comment as her confirmation of the engagement. WTA’s July 23, 2025 report reproduces the interview remark.
When did Williams and Preti get engaged?
The public confirmation came months after the proposal: the WTA reported in December 2025 that Williams and Preti became engaged in January 2025. Its December 23 report also says they married.
What was the tennis context?
Williams made the announcement after a singles victory at the Mubadala Citi DC Open, during her return to the Hologic WTA Tour. The Associated Press described the win as her first singles victory in 16 months. The AP’s July 24, 2025 report independently covered the engagement announcement and match.
