These are 12 horror movies in which Santa, a Santa-like figure, a robot Santa, or someone using a Santa disguise is the main killer or threat. The ranking is an editorial judgment based on suspense, menace, tone, and how directly each film fits the premise—not an objective scare score. Santa-costumed victims, Krampus, and action-hero Santa belong in the boundary cases below, not among the 12.
12. Santa Claws (1996)
A human killer in a Santa suit stalks and murders a film cast. The disguise is the source of the holiday contrast; underneath it is a conventional human threat, not a supernatural Santa. It earns the final place because the premise fits squarely, even if the disguise does more of the work than a distinctive Santa mythology. The Escapist describes its Santa-costumed killer targeting a cast.
11. Silent Night (2012)
Not to be confused with Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) or the separate 2021 film titled Silent Night, this slasher uses a killer hidden among people wearing Santa costumes at a small-town Christmas event. The multiple disguises create a simple but effective uncertainty: the threatening figure can blend into the celebration. Rotten Tomatoes’ film listing identifies the 2012 movie.
10. Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022)
This entry swaps a person in a red suit for a malfunctioning robotic Santa. The mechanical antagonist gives the film a science-fiction slasher angle: its menace comes from a machine gone wrong, rather than from a human killer adopting Santa’s identity. Fangoria includes the film among its Christmas horror picks.

9. Santa’s Slay (2005)
Santa is a demonic killer on a Christmas Eve spree, but the film leans into outrageous comedy rather than sustained psychological dread. That makes it a strong choice for viewers who want a supernatural Santa and exaggerated mayhem more than a straight-faced slasher. Fangoria’s Christmas-horror list treats it as one of the killer-Santa variations.
8. Sint (2010), also known as Saint Nick
This Dutch film draws on Sinterklaas, a figure from Dutch tradition, and presents a murderous ghostly version. It is a Santa-like threat, but its cultural roots make it more specific than a generic American Santa-in-a-suit story. The Escapist’s overview describes the film’s ghostly killer.

7. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)
Rare Exports turns the familiar Santa image into a sinister ancient presence linked to children disappearing. It sits near the edge of the category: the threat is a folkloric Santa-like creature, not simply a man in a costume. That folklore mystery and creature menace make it a more unusual kind of Christmas horror than a standard killer-Santa slasher. The Escapist and Fangoria both include it in Christmas-horror coverage.
6. Deadly Games (1989), also known as Dial Code Santa Claus and 3615 Code Père Noël
A killer in a Santa suit invades a home, where a resourceful child must fight to survive. The home-invasion setup gives the film a concentrated, personal threat rather than a public killing spree. Its alternate titles are useful when searching for the French film: it is also released as Dial Code Santa Claus and 3615 Code Père Noël. Fangoria discusses the film and its renewed attention following a Vinegar Syndrome 4K release.

5. Christmas Evil (1980)
Harry Stadling’s fixation on Christmas turns into a murderous Santa persona. The film’s strength is psychological unease: its threat grows out of one man’s obsessive relationship with the holiday, rather than a creature or machine. The British Film Institute identifies it as Lewis Jackson’s film and places it in the earlier psycho-Santa lineage that later became more widely associated with Silent Night, Deadly Night. BFI: Christmas Evil.
4. Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
Billy Chapman’s childhood trauma precedes his adult killing spree in a Santa suit. It remains the best-known example of the psycho-Santa slasher in these selections, pairing a human killer with the jarring image of Santa as a source of danger. The year is 1984—not 1974, an incorrect date that appears in one Christmas-horror list. TIME’s history of the film and Fangoria’s coverage identify it as a 1984 release.

3. The remaining contenders: ranking the Santa threat
The films at the top of this list make the killer-Santa premise especially direct or unsettling. The final two distinguish themselves through different kinds of menace: one makes Santa a familiar human disguise, while the other turns him into a creature-feature threat.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.2. Santa Claws (1996)
A stalker dressed as Santa murders a film cast, making the suit a tool of concealment as well as holiday imagery. This is a human-disguise story, not a supernatural Santa movie. The Escapist describes the film’s killer and victims.

1. Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
Billy Chapman’s path from childhood trauma to adult violence in a Santa suit makes this the most potent combination of psychological horror and killer-Santa iconography in the group. Its placement at number one is an editorial call: the image of Santa as the killer is inseparable from the film’s central threat. For the release year and premise, see TIME and Fangoria.
Quick Recap
Santa-adjacent films that do not make the killer-Santa list
- Don’t Open ’Til Christmas (1984): Santa-costumed people are the killer’s victims; Santa is not the killer. The Escapist includes it in broader Christmas-horror coverage.
- Black Christmas: A Christmas-set slasher, but not a movie about a killer Santa. Its holiday setting alone does not meet the inclusion rule. The Escapist’s broader list illustrates the difference between Christmas horror and killer-Santa horror.
- Krampus (2015): Its antagonist is Krampus, a separate folkloric creature, not Santa Claus. Fangoria includes it in Christmas horror, but it does not fit this ranking.
- Violent Night (2022): Santa fights mercenaries and kills them while protecting a child, so he is an action-hero defender rather than the slasher antagonist. Fangoria covers the film as a holiday action-horror variant.
