Jeff Bridges said in an October 25, 2024 interview that he had signed on for three seasons and was excited about the story—but FX cancelled The Old Man after two seasons in December 2024. His comment reflected his outlook before that decision, not a current plan for Season 3.
What happens in The Old Man Season 2?
The season picks up soon after the events of Season 1. Chase and Harper join forces to recover Emily, and their mission takes them to Afghanistan. There, Emily learns that Faraz Hamzad is her father and embraces the name and identity Parwana Hamzad. She becomes central to what happens to Hamzad’s family and village.
The official FX show page lists eight episodes for Season 2. The finale shifts the immediate mission: after Harper disappears, Parwana tells Chase he must help get Harper back. Chase and Parwana are left in a reluctant new alliance.
Where is Season 2 set?
Afghanistan is a fictional story setting for the season, not a confirmed production location. The official synopsis places the characters there, while executive producer Warren Littlefield described the drama’s expanded geopolitical scope as involving “Russia, China, U.S., Afghanistan.” That describes the story’s world; it does not establish where the season was filmed.

When does the story take place—and when did the season air?
In the story, Season 2 begins shortly after Season 1. Its events move from Chase and Harper’s effort to save Emily to Parwana’s new role and the search for Harper.

- October 25, 2024: TheWrap published Bridges’s post-finale comments about his expectations for the show’s future.
- December 2024: FX cancelled the series after two seasons.
FX’s show page directs viewers to Hulu. Streaming rights and availability can vary by location and change over time, so check Hulu in your region for current access.
What did Jeff Bridges say about a possible Season 3?
In a TheWrap interview published October 25, 2024, Bridges said: “I’ve signed on for three, and I love working with the people and I’m excited about where the story is going, so I just kind of play it by ear. I haven’t figured that far in the future yet.”

That was an actor’s account of his contract and feelings at the time, not an FX renewal announcement. FX cancelled the series on December 17, 2024. The earlier comment therefore does not mean a third season is planned.

Co-creator and executive producer Jonathan Steinberg explained the shift in a September 12, 2024 interview: “Season 1 was about a secret between two people who didn’t think they had secrets and the lengths that one of them would go to to keep them. Season 2 is about what happens when that secret’s out.”

With Emily’s identity and history no longer hidden, the conflict reaches beyond the original relationship between Chase and Harper. The Afghanistan setting and Parwana’s ties to Hamzad’s family broaden the stakes, while the finale’s unresolved search for Harper gives Chase and Parwana a reason to work together.
For the US launch, Disney’s September 12, 2024 announcement also quoted Bridges saying of working with John Lithgow, “We had a ball,” and describing the action work with, “I’m feeling great now and I’m coming back for more punishment.” Those were remarks made around the 2024 season launch, not current health updates.
