Billy Ray Cyrus and Elizabeth Hurley met while filming the 2022 holiday movie Christmas in Paradise, but their relationship did not become public until an Easter weekend Instagram post in April 2025. Cyrus later described a supportive text from Hurley as the start of their reconnection. In August 2026, Hurley still called him her boyfriend in a birthday tribute.
How did Billy Ray Cyrus and Elizabeth Hurley meet?
They met as costars in the 2022 holiday film Christmas in Paradise. Hurley played Joanna Christmas and Cyrus played Jimmy Love. Cyrus later said they had only a few scenes together, but he felt chemistry and remembered that they laughed together. He recalled on Apple Music’s The Ty Bentli Show: “We did very few scenes together but the couple times we were in the same scene, there was a chemistry there that [I] felt.” Us Weekly’s timeline recounts his comments.
How did the costars reconnect?
After filming, they did not speak for roughly two years, according to CNA Lifestyle’s account of Cyrus’s interview. In 2024, Hurley texted him while he was going through a difficult time. Cyrus said he did not initially recognize the number; Hurley identified herself and offered support. He remembered her message this way: “Hey, it looks like life might be a little bit tough and just wanted you to know I’m in your corner. You got a friend in your corner.” He described that outreach as a turning point in their reconnection.
When did Billy Ray Cyrus and Elizabeth Hurley make their relationship public?
They announced the relationship in a joint Instagram post over Easter weekend in April 2025. In the photo described by the Los Angeles Times, Cyrus wore green bunny ears and kissed Hurley on the cheek.

That public reveal should not be confused with the date they met: they had known each other since the film, while the exact beginning of their romance is not established by their own public comments. The Los Angeles Times reported an unnamed source’s account that the romantic relationship began only a few weeks before the announcement; that is anonymous-source reporting, rather than a date either Cyrus or Hurley confirmed.
What have they said about why they connect?
In May 2025, Hurley said the pairing might surprise others but did not surprise her. At the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Hot Pink Party, she described their shared humor and interests: “We both like to laugh a lot, and we both love the country. And we both love country music, both love movies. We’ve got a lot in common — and cowboy boots, definitely.” She also spoke about their shared experience as single parents, as reported by Us Weekly.
