Why don’t you see Ronald McDonald anymore?
McDonald’s official sources reviewed here do not identify a single reason for his lower advertising visibility across markets. They do not establish that clown sightings, criticism of marketing to children, the pandemic, or one particular marketing strategy caused the change. United States: a McDonaldland campaign in 2025
On August 5, 2025, McDonald’s announced a U.S. campaign featuring Ronald and other McDonaldland characters, beginning August 12. The campaign included the McDonaldland Meal, a collectible souvenir, and character merchandise. McDonald’s described the characters’ public campaign appearance as happening “for the first time in more than 20 years.” That is the company’s framing of this campaign, not independent proof that the characters made no appearances anywhere during that period, nor evidence of a permanent return to advertising in every market. Is Ronald McDonald still around?
Yes, in the sense that McDonald’s continues to identify Ronald as a character and featured him in the 2025 U.S. campaign. His role and visibility are not uniform across countries or formats: the 2018 UK statement distinguishes advertising from promotions and restaurant visits, while the 2025 U.S. announcement concerns a specific campaign.

McDonald’s USA reported that customers donated more than $72 million through Round-Up for Ronald McDonald House in 2024, and that more than 700,000 overnight stays were provided to families with hospitalized children that year.
