The movie was Blade: Trinity (2004), but “feud” is an oversimplification. Patton Oswalt later recounted dramatic on-set conflict involving Wesley Snipes and director David Goyer, and said Snipes’s reported absences affected some of Ryan Reynolds’s lines. Snipes later rejected the idea that he held a grudge, while also saying Reynolds’s humor was not to his taste at the time. The two actors eventually worked together again.
Which Marvel movie starred both actors?
It was Blade: Trinity, the third film in the Blade series. Wesley Snipes played Blade, while Ryan Reynolds played Hannibal King, a member of the vampire-hunting group known as the Nightstalkers. Jessica Biel played Abigail Whistler, and David Goyer wrote and directed the film. A contemporary cast interview identifies the roles and introduces the Nightstalkers as the new group around Blade.
What are the stories behind the alleged feud?
The most dramatic widely repeated account comes from actor Patton Oswalt, who discussed the production in a 2012 A.V. Club interview. Den of Geek’s summary of Oswalt’s recollections describes alleged absences by Snipes, communication through Post-it notes, and a confrontation with Goyer. Oswalt also said that some of Reynolds’s lines were written because Snipes was not present. Those are Oswalt’s recollections, not independently established findings. Den of Geek noted that Snipes’s side had not been heard in its account. Read Den of Geek’s account.
That distinction matters: the detailed anecdotes principally describe alleged tension between Snipes and Goyer. Reynolds figures in the story because Oswalt linked some of his lines to Snipes’s reported absences—not because the account establishes a sustained personal feud between Reynolds and Snipes.

What did Snipes say about the reports?
In a 2018 interview with Vice, Snipes was asked whether the bad blood remained. He replied, “I don’t have bad blood with any man. Or woman.” Speaking about Goyer, he added, “I don’t fault him. I don’t fault anybody.” Snipes also criticized the film’s performance compared with the first two Blade movies and said the studio had tried to blame him. These comments are Snipes’s retrospective account; they do not settle every detail in Oswalt’s version. Read the Vice interview.
Contemporary production comments provide context, but not a verdict on the specific allegations. In a set-visit interview, Goyer called Snipes “an amazing actor” and described a lengthy shoot in which cast and crew sometimes broke down. He also said he had worked with Snipes on multiple films. That praise does not confirm or disprove the reported confrontation. Read Goyer’s interview.

How did Snipes describe working with Reynolds again?
Snipes returned as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), reuniting with Reynolds. In comments reported that year, Snipes said that some of Reynolds’s humor in Blade: Trinity was not his taste at the time: “Some of the things he did back in those days, that’s not really my humour.” He said the style made more sense to him in the context of Deadpool and that he enjoyed working with Reynolds again. Read Snipes’s 2024 comments.
Director Shawn Levy said the idea of bringing Snipes back grew from respect for Blade’s legacy. Levy also said Reynolds and Snipes had not been in close touch for a long time before the outreach. Their reunion shows they worked together again; it does not prove or disprove every claim about the 2004 shoot. Read Levy’s account.
