In the first half, Damsel and Lift were standouts; in the second half, Netflix highlighted several animated films. Those are period-specific findings, not a combined annual top list.
Netflix’s reported movie highlights from 2024
Netflix published engagement results for two separate periods. The first-half report named Damsel and Lift among its action and adventure highlights. Its second-half report emphasized the strength of animated films. The figures below should be read within their stated reporting periods, not as a year-long ranking.
January–June 2024
| Film | Netflix-reported views | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Damsel | 144 million | Highlighted in Netflix’s first-half 2024 report. |
| Lift | 129 million | Highlighted in Netflix’s first-half 2024 report. |
Netflix’s first-half 2024 engagement report presents these as highlights from that half of the year, not as a full-year ranking.
July–December 2024
Netflix said 10 of its top 25 films in the second half of 2024 were animated. It highlighted these titles and their reported views:

Netflix’s second-half report says it covered about 99% of the service’s video watch time, and that no single title accounted for more than 1% of all Netflix viewing during that period. Those figures describe the breadth of viewing, rather than a ranking of movies alone. Read Netflix’s second-half 2024 engagement report.
What Netflix means by “views”
In its Engagement Report, Netflix calculates views by dividing a title’s total hours viewed by its runtime. That adjustment makes viewing totals more comparable across titles of different lengths, but it does not mean that each view represents a distinct person.

Netflix calls engagement “our best proxy for member joy.” For comparisons between titles, it recommends its weekly Top 10 and Most Popular lists, which account for runtimes and premiere dates. Netflix explains its engagement methodology here.
Why there is no definitive full-year ranking here
A half-year report measures viewing within a fixed six-month period. Netflix’s all-time Most Popular film chart uses a different window: views accumulated during each title’s first 91 days after release. Neither figure, on its own, answers which films had the most views across all of calendar 2024.

The report summaries provide useful period-specific highlights, but the figures presented here do not establish combined annual view totals, the complete order of every film, or a definitive 2024 top list.
