Spoilers for the full film and its post-credit scene. Reze turns back toward Denji, but never reaches the café: Makima and Angel intercept her, leaving Denji waiting alone until Power appears after the credits. The heartbreak closes Reze’s story while the announced sequel, Chainsaw Man: Assassins Arc, shifts the danger toward multiple assassins targeting Denji’s heart. It is the next announced anime project—not a confirmed “Season 2” with a stated release date or episode count.
What happens at the end of the Reze Arc movie?
Reze’s plan turns into a choice
After her identity as the Bomb Devil hybrid is exposed, Reze tries to take Denji’s heart. The fight eventually brings Denji, Reze and Beam to the shore. Denji then offers to run away with her. Reze initially leaves, but changes course and heads back toward the Crossroads café to meet him. GamesRadar’s ending recap describes these events.
Makima and Angel stop her
Reze does not make it to Denji. GamesRadar’s account says Makima and Angel intercept her and kill her, with Angel delivering the killing blow. The scene turns Reze’s apparent decision to return into a loss Denji never gets to understand: he waits at the café without learning that she changed her mind.
Power arrives after the credits
The post-credit scene shows Power joining Denji at the café and arguing with him for not bringing her flowers. He gets a familiar, messy moment with his partner instead of the reunion he was waiting for. The scene returns the story to Denji’s existing life, but does not resolve the emotional rupture Reze leaves behind.

What does Angel’s final reflection mean?
The film closes with Angel reflecting on the fable of the city mouse and the country mouse. GamesRadar interprets Angel as leaning toward the city mouse’s riskier, more active life. That is an interpretation of the scene, not an official explanation. It adds a quiet thematic note to an ending shaped by Denji’s longing for an ordinary life and the danger that keeps pulling him into conflict.
How does the ending set up the next anime story?
The story’s immediate threat has been Reze, who pursued Denji’s heart. The next officially announced anime project broadens that danger: Chainsaw Man: Assassins Arc is described as a sequel to the film, with assassins targeting Denji’s heart. The official announcement provides the clearest bridge between the film’s ending and what follows. Reze’s arc concludes, but the threat to Denji’s heart expands from one attacker to many.

That does not mean Reze’s failed return is a direct cliffhanger for a romance to resume. Instead, the ending leaves Denji’s loss unresolved while the announced sequel moves the danger forward. The film’s distributor identifies Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga, serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+, as the source story, but the cited information does not establish the exact manga chapter endpoint adapted by the film. Sony Pictures’ film page supplies the source-story and production credits.

The official anime-site announcement calls the project Chainsaw Man: Assassins Arc and describes it as a sequel to the Reze Arc film. It confirms the project and its assassin-focused premise, but the announcement does not establish that its formal format is “Season 2.” It also does not give a release date, episode count or the amount of manga material to be adapted. Calling it the next announced anime project or the film’s sequel is more precise than stating that a particular season format or schedule is confirmed.
