VULTURES 2 may be the point where some listeners decide they no longer want to follow Kanye West’s music—not because one review score settles the question, but because the album’s uneven execution and provocative writing can make continued attention feel harder to justify than the moments that reward it.
What is VULTURES 2?
Credited to ¥$, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, VULTURES 2 was released on August 3, 2024, under the YZY label. Apple Music lists it as a 16-track, 49-minute album (Apple Music). Pitchfork reported that it was available on major digital streaming platforms; that report does not establish current availability on every service or in every territory (Pitchfork).
Why the reviews make a case for walking away
Execution that gets in the way
Pitchfork reviewer Stephen Kearse, writing on August 14, 2024, judged the sequel shoddier in construction and execution than its predecessor. Pitchfork displays a 0.0 score alongside the review; that is the outlet’s evaluation, not an objective measurement or proof of what listeners generally think (Pitchfork).
That criticism matters because technical and performance choices shape whether a song feels finished and compelling. When the execution itself draws attention away from the music, listeners already wary of West’s recent work may find little reason to invest the time required to get past it.

A restless, uncertain musical identity
Ben Beaumont-Thomas’s August 6, 2024 Guardian review describes the music as erratic and confused (The Guardian). That is a critical judgment, but it points to a useful question for any listener: do the songs’ shifts feel like deliberate exploration, or do they leave the album without a persuasive center?
If the listener hears the latter, variety alone is not a reason to stay. A track can hold attention briefly while the record as a whole still feels less coherent than its length and track count invite it to be.

Provocation without enough payoff
The Guardian also characterizes the lyrics as moving between nihilistic provocation and messages to West’s ex-wife. Beaumont-Thomas discusses the album amid West’s antisemitic remarks and their effects on some fans and commercial partners. The review frames that context as part of the way the music is received; it does not establish a single response shared by all listeners.
For some, separating the art from the artist will not resolve the question. The relevant test is whether the writing and music offer enough insight, pleasure or invention to make the album worth engaging with despite the discomfort. If the provocation feels more conspicuous than the artistic payoff, stepping away is a defensible response.

Does anything justify staying with it?
A review cannot decide that for every listener. The case for continuing is necessarily personal: a listener may hear something in a particular performance, production choice or song that outweighs the broader problems identified by the critics. The cited reviews support concerns about execution, coherence and lyrical provocation, but they do not measure how often listeners find exceptions or how strongly those moments matter to them.
It is reasonable to listen selectively, revisit an earlier album instead, or stop following new releases. Choosing not to keep up is not a verdict on what every listener should hear; it is a judgment about whether this album gives you enough in return for your attention.

What “unsubscribe” means here
Rolling Stone Australia used the phrase “It’s Time to Unsubscribe From the Kanye Disaster” in its headline about the album (Rolling Stone Australia). It is an editorial framing, not evidence that listeners broadly share that view. Here, “unsubscribe” means deciding to stop actively following West’s music—not claiming that everyone should do the same.
