After leaving hospital, Quigley publicly mourned them as generous, enthusiastic and kind, and urged people to tell their loved ones they care.
What happened in Venice in September 2021
Emergency responders went to a residence in Venice on September 4, 2021. Three people were found dead, and a fourth person was taken to hospital. The Los Angeles Times, citing the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, identified the people who died as comedian Fuquan Johnson, Enrico “Rico” Colangeli and Natalie Williamson. The hospitalized woman was identified as comedian Kate Quigley. Los Angeles Times, September 6, 2021
The Times reported that LAPD spokesperson Officer Mike Lopez said there was no indication of foul play. Police suspected an overdose but had not identified the drugs involved at the time. The same report attributed the claim that the group had taken cocaine laced with fentanyl to TMZ; that specific account was not established by the police information cited in the Times story.
What Kate Quigley said about her friends
After her release from hospital, Quigley wrote that she was “still shocked & devastated by the loss of my friends Fu, Rico and Natalie.” She said their deaths would leave her “changed forever.” In the tribute reproduced by TMZ and The Daily Beast, she remembered Fu as “a generous, loving soul,” Rico as “always filled with enthusiasm,” and Natalie as “so kind and endearing.” She added: “They each made an indelible mark on my life and the lives of their loved ones. I will miss them.” The Daily Beast, September 12, 2021

Quigley ended with a message about not taking time with loved ones for granted: “Tell your people that you love them every day. Stay safe. And please don’t take life for granted. I did, and I never will again.” These were her personal recollections of friends she had lost, not independent assessments of their lives.
What Quigley later recounted about surviving
In a 2022 interview on Red Table Talk, Quigley described losing consciousness and later trying to wake Rico, whom she initially thought was asleep. She said her uncle arrived and called 911. In reporting on the interview, The Independent also said Quigley described experiencing total kidney failure and believed she survived because she had taken less of the substance. Those are details from her retrospective account, rather than independently established medical findings in the contemporaneous reporting. The Independent, May 19, 2022
