Spoilers for the Season 1 finale. Adam Desiato’s fatal collision with Rocco Baxter sets off a chain of lies that costs innocent people their lives—and ends with Adam dead. As Season 2 begins, Michael is in custody, grieving his son and facing a new chance to bring down the Baxter family.
How Adam’s collision pulled Michael into the cover-up
Adam Desiato, a New Orleans high-school senior with asthma, has an attack while driving. He looks away to reach for his inhaler and hits Rocco Baxter, a teenager riding a motorcycle. Adam tries to help, but panics and flees. He tells his father, Judge Michael Desiato, what happened, and Michael initially takes him to the police.
That changes when Michael learns Rocco is the son of Jimmy Baxter, a powerful crime boss. Instead of letting the case proceed, Michael hides Adam’s role. His choice to protect his son becomes a widening cover-up with consequences far beyond their family. Bryan Cranston, who plays Michael and is also an executive producer, described the series’ central pressure this way: “I believe that a person’s character is determined by the decisions they make under pressure.” Netflix Tudum’s Season 1 recap and interview lays out that premise and the fallout.
How the cover-up destroys Kofi Jones’s family
Kofi Jones is framed for Rocco’s death. Rocco’s older brother Carlo later kills Kofi in prison. The Baxters then attack Kofi’s family home: an explosion kills Kofi’s mother, while his younger brother Eugene is away.

Michael rushes to his son and holds him as he dies. The ending turns Michael’s original choice inside out: his attempt to save Adam helped create the chain of events that leads to Adam’s death. Eugene’s shot was aimed at Carlo, but Adam is the one who pays for the violence and deception that have spread through both families.

The official Paramount+ Season 2 episode guide gives a brief bridge into the season: Michael is grieving at the start; Olivia pushes him toward a dangerous decision in episode 2; a face-off with Jimmy produces a confession in episode 3; and the finale ends with Michael revealing shocking information. The guide’s episode descriptions do not establish a more detailed transition from the Season 1 finale to Michael’s custody, so the recap stops at that setup.
