Rick Devens turns the packaging for Christian Hubicki’s Boomerang Idol into a convincing fake and hides it by the Tribal Council fire. Christian’s deliberately staged fall helps provide cover—but Rick’s apparent excitement about the placement may put the deception at risk. In Dalton Ross’s recap for Entertainment Weekly, syndicated by Yahoo on March 5, 2026, the idol gambit is the episode’s sharpest strategic turn, set against Cila’s immunity loss and Savannah Louie’s elimination.
How Rick’s fake idol plan takes shape
Rick learns about Christian’s Boomerang Idol and uses its packaging to make a fake idol, which he conceals behind a rock near the Tribal Council fire, according to Ross’s account. The plan relies not only on the prop but also on the moment when attention is elsewhere.
Christian’s fall creates a distraction
As the players leave Tribal Council, Christian intentionally falls. Ross describes the bit as helping Rick carry out the placement. The recap also mentions Christian having an unexpected bathroom emergency earlier in the episode, but treats it as a brief comic aside rather than an explanation of the idol plan.
A risky moment for Rick
Ross notes that Rick seems to draw Jeff Probst’s attention toward where the fake has been hidden. That could undermine the concealment: a trick that depends on others not noticing the location becomes less secure if the person planting it appears eager to point it out. The recap presents this as Ross’s reading of the moment, not confirmation that the fake was discovered.

Why Savannah becomes Cila’s target
Cila loses immunity, and Savannah is voted out at Tribal Council. Ross describes Cirie Fields as steering discussion away from her ally Ozzy Lusth and toward Savannah. He also says Cirie secured Ozzy’s extra vote without asking him directly.
Savannah’s position is complicated by uncertainty about her earlier game and by an advantage she received after beating Colby on a journey, as Ross frames the situation. The recap connects those uncertainties to her predicament, but does not establish them as the sole reason for the vote.

Rick and Joe’s personal and game relationship
Rick’s refusal of Savannah’s proposed alliance feeds tension with Joe Hunter. Rick separates personal affection from strategic frustration in a line quoted by Ross: “I have not stopped loving Joe as a human being. I am over it with him as a game player. You’re a Survivor player, bro. We’re allowed to lie and backstab!”
The distinction captures a basic Survivor tension: players can care about one another while treating deception as part of the competition. Here, Rick’s words are also a pointed response to the conflict Ross describes between the two players.

Challenge results and shifting tribe dynamics
Reward challenge: Rick lands all three rings
The reward challenge sends players through a water course featuring a three-level balance beam and rings. Ross reports that Rick lands all three rings. He also offers a first-person observation from a press and Dream Team run-through: the beam appeared wider in the final version. That is Ross’s impression, not a production-confirmed account of a course change.
Immunity challenge: Vatu first, Cila last
Ross compares the immunity challenge to the first immunity challenge of Survivor 49, noting that this one had less mud. He reports the finishing order as Vatu first, Kalo second and Cila last—the result that sends Cila to Tribal Council.

Within the tribes, Rizo works to fit into Vatu’s majority as alliance positions shift. Elsewhere, Genevieve searches Aubry’s bag before Christian gives Aubry the Boomerang Idol, and Aubry reacts emotionally to the search. Ross also describes a clash between Coach and Ozzy over a challenge key, with each invoking ideas of honor and integrity. Those descriptions reflect the recap’s account and commentary rather than a neutral ruling on the players’ conduct or motives.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Coach and Ozzy’s argument over integrity
Coach says, “I really want to get as far in this game as possible with just a shred of dignity,” and, “I’m playing this game like I always played it.” Ozzy replies, “Yeah, I think he is playing the game like he’s always played it. At least the last time I played it with him.” In the context of the key dispute, the exchange makes their disagreement about more than a challenge object: they are also contesting whose version of integrity should define their play.
