Nikki Glaser made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut on November 8, 2025, with sombr as musical guest. Los Angeles Times reviewer Omar L. Gallaga found that Glaser’s sketch performances suited her better than the episode’s extended stand-up monologue—a critic’s assessment, not a measure of audience reaction.
Glaser’s monologue took on personal and provocative material
Glaser’s stand-up opening ranged across race, politics, sex, beauty treatments, dating and sexual assault. Gallaga described it as a go-for-broke set, but judged that some of its jokes worked less well on the SNL stage than in Glaser’s own comedy. His concise verdict was: “Glaser’s lengthy monologue may not have been as perfect a fit as it should have been, but her sketch performances were spot-on.”
The sketches gave Glaser more room to play
The episode moved through several comic settings, from political parody to awkward everyday encounters. Gallaga highlighted these sketches:
- Oval Office cold open: The show opened with a political sketch set in the White House.
- “Spirit tunnel” commercial: A parody commercial riffed on the Jennifer Hudson Show’s tunnel of enthusiastic performers.
- Delayed flight: A flight delay turned into a sketch built around James Austin Johnson’s chatty pilot delivering updates over the intercom.
- Family karaoke: A family gathering supplied the setting for a karaoke sketch.
- American Girl dolls: A mock commercial focused on adult men and life-size American Girl dolls.
- Mechanical bull musical number: A musical sketch centered on a mechanical bull.
Gallaga also singled out “Beauty and Mr. Beast” and a sorority sketch as less successful. Those are his judgments of the material, rather than evidence of a broader consensus.
